Hallo Laserdisc- und DVD-Fans,
liebe Filmfreunde!
Wenn Sie diese Zeilen lesen, befinden wir uns bereits auf unserer alljährlichen Reise zum Widescreen
Weekend in Bradford. Doch wir
wollten Sie natürlich nicht ohne
neuen Lesestoff zurücklassen! Die
vorliegende Ausgabe unseres
Newsletters dürfte wieder einige
Herzen höher schlagen lassen. Speziell jene der AVATAR-Fans. Denn
James Camerons Blockbuster wird
bereits Ende April weltweit auf
DVD und Blu-ray vermarktet werden. Aber hier ist Vorsicht geboten.
Denn es wird sich vorerst nur um
eine abgespeckte Ausstattung handeln. “The real thing”, wie die
Amerikaner sagen würden, gibt es
voraussichtlich erst Ende des Jahres. Aber solche Vermarktungsstrategien sind bei Cameron-Filmen
nichts Neues. Wer also einfach nur
den Film haben möchte, der ist mit
der am 23. April in den Handel
kommenden Version vollauf bedient. Wer sich allerdings mit stundenlangen Audiokommentaren und
Making ofs auseinandersetzen und
den Film möglichst auch noch in
einer 3D-Version besitzen möchte,
der darf sich gemütlich zurücklehnen und dem Jahresende entgegenfiebern.
Wer sich aus blauen Urvölkern
nicht so viel macht, dafür aber gerne zu gepflegter Vampirskost greift,
dem sei der jüngst auf den “Fantasy
Filmfest Nights” gezeigten
DAYBREAKERS empfohlen. Die
US-DVD sowie Blu-ray wird Mitte
Mai erscheinen und dafür sorgen,
dass nicht nur die Spannung bis
zum Siedepunkt kocht, sondern
auch die Heimkinoanlage Höchstleistungen vollführen muss! Mehr
zum Film gibt’s in unserem Special
zu den “Fantasy Filmfest Nights”
ab Seite 26. Unser Filmspezialist
Wolfram Hannemann hat sich dort
umgesehen und acht der gezeigten
zehn Filme angesehen. Was er

Zu guter Letzt sei noch auf eine
kommende Veranstaltung der
Schauburg in Karlsruhe hingewiesen. Eine Veranstaltung? Wohl eher
nicht. Denn die Bezeichnung
“Event” (Ereignis) trifft den Charakter der Präsentation wesentlich
besser! Die Rede ist vom großen
“Sensurround”-Festival, auf dem
am 5.+6. Juni 2010 nahezu alle im
Sensurround-Tonsystem in die Kinos gebrachten Filme nochmals zu
erleben sind. Ob ERDBEBEN,
ACHTERBAHN, SCHLACHT
UM MIDWAY oder die KAMPFSTERN GALATICA-Filme – das
subwoofer-basierte Tonsystem wird
dafür sorgen, dass die Zuschauer
die Filme nicht nur sehen, sondern

One Man’s Trash Is Another Man’s Treasure
Trash - manchmal gibt es nichts Schöneres. .
Neulich stellte ich beim Sortieren meiner nicht unerheblichen DVD-Sammlung fest: viele meiner
Meistgeschauten sind eindeutig Trash. Wir alle
haben unsere ganz eigenen Vorlieben und über
Geschmack/Qualität lässt sich bekanntlich streiten. Meiner Meinung nach ist Showgirls ist ein hervorragender Film – er hat einen perfekt funktionierenden Plot, Charakterentwicklung und brillant
gecastete Darsteller. Roger Ebert teilt diese Ansicht ganz und gar nicht.
Fakt ist: Trash-Filme sind Filme, die so schlecht
sind, dass sie schon wieder gut sind. Fakt ist
auch: wir lieben Trash, wir wollen es nur nicht
gern zugeben. Schon Mark Twain wusste, dass
“Ein Klassiker etwas ist, das jeder gelesen haben
möchte, aber keiner lesen will”. So verhält es sich
auch oft mit Filmen. Hand aufs Herz: Wenn ich
Sie frage, ob unter Ihren Lieblingsfilmen mehr
Klassiker (auch moderne Klassiker) oder mehr
Trash ist – was würden Sie antworten? Fassen
wir heute die Definition des Lieblingsfilmes doch
mal so, dass dazu nicht nur Filme gehören, die
qualitativ hochwertig sind, sondern auch jeder
Film, den Sie sich schon tausend Mal angesehen
haben, der Ihnen immer wieder Freude macht, bei
dem Sie die Dialoge auswendig mitsprechen können. Dann stehen nämlich nicht mehr nur Patton,
2001: A Space Odyssee, Thelma & Louise oder
Vertigo auf der Liste. Nein, auf meiner Liste tummeln sich dann plötzlich G.I. Joe: The Rise of
Cobra, Independence Day, Planet Terror, Aeon
Flux und Clueless. Ich liebe diese Filme einfach.
Nachdem er mir geschenkt wurde, habe ich mir
G.I. Joe drei Mal nacheinander angesehen. Und
ich finde noch nicht mal, das Rachel Nichols als
Scarlett gut gecastet war!
Es gibt gute Gründe, Trash zu lieben. Trash
nimmt sich nicht ernst. Das ist befreiend. Es gibt

Momente, wenn man nach zehn Stunden Arbeit,
einem Streit, einer Krankheit oder Schlussmachen
einfach nicht mehr intellektuell stimuliert werden
möchte. Dann hilft Ghandi nicht. Man möchte losprusten vor Lachen, Salma Hayeks Brüsten und
George Clooneys Hintern nachsabbern, mitfiebern
bei atemberaubenden Kampfszenen und sich die
coolsten Dialoge der Welt ins Hirn brennen lassen. Kurz, man möchte eine große Dosis From
Dusk Till Dawn/Planet Terror. Und zwar bitte so-

fort und intravenös. Wenn sich Trash doch mal
ernst nimmt, ist es oft noch lustiger, so wie z.B.
im Fall von Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. Billige, durchschaubare Effekte, grässliche GraublauTünchung, schlecht konstruierte Geschichte,
Continuity-Fehler so weit das Auge reicht. Aber
dann sind da Michael Sheen und Bill Nighy, die
versuchen, das Ganze so tiefgründig und leidenschaftlich wie möglich zu spielen … und irgendwie, auf trashige Art und Weise, schaffen sie es,
den Film sehenswert zu machen. Ich mochte Michael Sheen schon immer. Aber seit ich ihn,
Rhona Mitra auf den nackten Hüften wippend, wie
gekreuzigt über einem Abgrund hängend, habe
kommen sehen, bin ich ein bisschen verliebt. Ehrlich, ich habe die DVD schon mehr als fünf Mal
reingeworfen, nur um diese Sexszene zu sehen,
noch nicht mal den ganzen Film!
Trash ist leicht verdaulich. Bei großen, qualitativ
hochwertigen Filme passiert es leicht, dass man,
wenn man sie schon gesehen hat, vor ihren ernsten, oftmals dramatisch-tragischen Geschichten
zurückschreckt. Sie können uns, erwischen sie
uns in der falschen Stimmung, belasten. Ingmar
Bergmans Das Schweigen ist ein grandioser Film,
aber ich kann ihn mir nicht anschauen, wenn ich
gerade einen blöden Tag gehabt habe. Mission:
Impossible III bringt mich da viel eher gut runter.
Moulin Rouge! kann ich mir nicht ansehen, wenn
ich traurig bin. Es reicht schon der Gedanke an
das herzzerreißende Ende, um mich dem Suizid
nahe zu bringen. Dann doch lieber Connie &
Carla, wo sogar mein Herzblatt David Duchovny
mitspielt.
Trash-Filme geben uns ein Gefühl der Überlegenheit. Manchmal ist das sehr schön. Sind die Filme
schlecht gemacht, wie z.B. Christopher Lees
Dracula-Filme, freuen wir uns über den Gedanken, dass wir das ja soooo viel besser hätten machen können: mit einer Flasche Ketchup! Sind die

wir uns, weil sie schlechter sind als wir (es wären). Wir hätten Mr. Bond nicht einfach den ganzen unausgeführten Plan verraten, nur weil wir
dachten, wir bringen ihn jetzt sowieso um. Ich
persönlich hätte das schon allein deshalb nicht
getan, damit ich die Genugtuung hätte zu
sagen:“I’m not a comic book villain. Do you
seriously think I would explain my master stroke to
you if there were even the slightest possibility you
could affect the outcome? I triggered it 35 minutes
ago.” Ozymandias aus Watchmen ist einfach eine
coole Sau!
Ein Gefühl der Überlegenheit haben zu wollen ist
im Kontext der Trash-Filme auch nichts Schlimmes. Denn Trash-Filme legen wir meist dann ein,
wenn wir sie emotional brauchen. Sie sind filmische Glücksoasen, gebunden an Erinnerungen
oder Gefühle, die wir entweder verarbeiten wollen
oder die entstehen sollen. Ich gucke manchmal
Clueless, wenn ich den Glauben an die unschuldige, süße Liebe wieder gewinnen möchte.
Viele geben nicht gerne zu, dass sie Trash gukken, geschweige denn mögen. “Ich liebe
Serenity!” klingt für sie nicht so gut wie “Ich liebe
The Lady From Shanghai!” Ich meine, alle Filmarten haben eine Daseinsberechtigung und sei es
nur, weil sie eine einzige Person auf der Welt
glücklich gemacht haben. Wir sollten Trash nicht
ausgrenzen oder tabuisieren, nur weil es Trash
ist. Wir sollten zu unseren trashigen Lieblingen
stehen, denn wenn sie es in unsere DVD-Sammlung (also in unsere Herzen) geschafft haben,
dann haben sie es sicher verdient. Es lebe Trash!

Von Karrierefrauen, Komponisten und
Aussenseitern
Wenn die Arbeitswoche schon so gut anfängt, dann lasse ich mir das gefallen!
COCO CHANEL & IGOR SRAVINSKY

1920 nimmt die erfolgreiche Modedesignerin Coco Chanel den russischen
Komponisten Igor Stravinsky und dessen
Frau und Kinder in ihrem Landhaus bei
Paris auf. Zwischen der kühlen, schamlosen Geschäftsfrau Chanel und dem Künstler Stravinsky funkt es und die beiden beginnen eine Affäre... Opulent ausgestattete
und exzellent fotografierte Episode aus
dem bewegten Leben der Coco Chanel,
deren Leben vor ihrer Karriere bereits in
einem Film im vergangenen Jahr verewigt
wurde. Ganz im Gegensatz zu jener Verfilmung hat mich der neue Film wesentlich
mehr fasziniert. Das lag zum größten Teil
an den großartigen Schauspielern. Anna
Mouglalis gibt der Rolle der Coco viel
mehr Tiefe als die Darstellung durch
Audrey Tautou. Und Mads Mikkelsen als
teils exzentrischer Igor Stravinsky, der nur
seine Musik als Kunst betrachtet und
Channels Talent nicht anerkennt, überzeugt
ebenfalls.

Robert Greenberg, eben aus einer Nervenheilanstalt entlassener New Yorker, soll in
Los Angeles auf das Haus seines Bruders
aufpassen, während dieser mit seiner Familie Urlaub in Vietnam macht. Florence, die
junge Assistentin des Bruders, soll sich um
Roberts Bedürfnisse kümmern. Die beiden
kommen sich sehr schnell näher. Doch ohne
Probleme bleibt die Affäre nicht... Das ich
das noch erleben darf: der erste Film mit
Ben Stiller, der mir richtig gut gefallen hat!
Mit typisch Woody Allen’schem Humor
versteht es Regisseur Noah Baumbach beim
Zuschauer echte Sympathie für seine Cha-

raktere aufzubauen. Das gelingt natürlich
nur mit einer perfekten Besetzung. Ben
Stiller und insbesondere Greta Gerwig
(sehr hübsch auch ohne Hollywood-Klischee!) füllen ihre Rollen als Außenseiter
hervorragend aus und machen einen der
Leitsprüche des Films, “Verletzte Menschen verletzen Menschen” (im Original:
“Hurt People Hurt People”) wahrhaftig
greifbar. Sehenswertes Independent-Kino.

Amoklauf trifft auf Call-Center
Bei einem Presse-Double-Feature ist alles
möglich...

Als seine Frau und Tochter Opfer eines
Schusswechsels zwischen Rebellen und der
Polizei werden, läuft ein vorbestrafter iranischer Nachtwächter Amok und erschießt
einen Polizisten... Obgleich der Film nur
ganze 88 Minuten dauert, beinhaltet er
Szenen, die zu ausgedehnt oder zu langsam
erscheinen. Vieles deutet der Film nur an
und überlässt es dem Zuschauer, zu interpretieren. Das mag in dem einen oder anderen Fall durchaus gut sein, da der Film dadurch interessanter wirkt. Das aber passiert einfach zu oft und führt dadurch zu
einer gewissen Überforderung. Nichtsdestotrotz bleiben bestimmte Eindrücke des
Films haften, geht es doch schließlich um
die Auflehnung eines Einzelnen gegen eine
Obrigkeit, die mit ihm sehr unsanft umgegangen ist und dafür büßen muss.

Mit ihrem “Suma com laude” in der Tasche
macht sich Philosophie-Studentin Marta
auf die Suche nach einem Job bei einem
Verlag. Vergebens. So betätigt sie sich nicht
nur als Babysitter, sondern nimmt auch
noch einen Job bei einem Call-Center an.
Dass die dort angestellten Mädels nach
allen Regeln der Kunst ausgebeutet werden,
wird ihr aber erst nach einiger Zeit klar. Sie
vertraut sich einem Gewerkschafter an...
War der deutsche Film SELBSTGESPRÄCHE eine ernsthafte Auseinandersetzung
mit den Machenschaften innerhalb eines
Call-Centers, so kommt der Film von Paolo
Virzi als schrille, sehr offenherzige und
äußerst sarkastische “Dramödie” daher.
Und die ist stellenweise wirklich amüsant,
doch letztendlich leider wesentlich zu lang.
Auch verliert sie sich des Öfteren in
Handlungssträngen, die mit der eigentlichen
Story keine Berührungspunkte haben (wie
z.B. die Krankheitsgeschichte von Martas
Mutter oder gar die deftigen Seitensprünge
des Gewerkschafters).

Kaputte Familien und höfisches Gezänk
Die beiden letzten Pressevorführungen in
dieser Woche. Doch halt: am Samstag und
Sonntag gibt es nich die “Fantasy Filmfest
Nights”! Wieder nichts mit Schlafen...

Seit dem Selbstmord von Tylers Bruder
Michael hat deren Vater sich vom Familienleben komplett abgenabelt und lebt nur
noch für seinen Wall-Street-Job. Darunter
leidet vor allem Tylers kleine Schwester.
Da lernt Tyler Allie kennen. Auch sie muss
eine Tragödie verarbeiten: vor zehn Jahren
wurde ihre Mutter vor ihren Augen ermordet. Die beiden verlieben sich ineinander.
Doch schon bald wird das junge Glück ins
Chaos gestürzt... Ein Film, der perfekt zu
meinem Leitspruch passt: “Denke immer
daran: morgen ist der erste Tag vom Rest
Deines Lebens!”. Ein sensibel inszeniertes
und gespieltes Beziehungsdrama mit einem
überraschenden und alles andere als positivem Ende. Pierce Brosnan in der Rolle des
Bankers überzeugt als echter Kotzbrocken,
der seine wahren Gefühle unter Verschluss
hält und dafür ein aalglattes Äußeres präsentiert. Auch Robert “Twilight” Pattinson
und Emilie de Ravin füllen ihre Rolle als
Liebespaar in hervorragender Weise aus.
Doch keiner von ihnen kommt an Ruby
Jerins in der Rolle der kleinen Schwestern
heran. Hier fühlt man sich unweigerlich an
Abigail Breslin als “Little Miss Sunshine”
erinnert.

Darsteller: Paulina Gaitan, Edgar Flores,
Kristian Ferrer
Zwei Schicksale, die sich kreuzen: Willy,
der sich “El Caspar” nennt, gehört zu einer
brutalen Gang an der mexikanischen Grenze, und Sayra, die mit ihrem Vater und dem
Onkel Honduras verlässt, um in die Vereinigten Staaten zu gelangen. Willy, dessen
Freundin von Gang-Anführer ermordet
wurde, rettet Sayra in letzter Sekunde das
Leben und steht damit auf der Todesliste.
Zusammen mit Sayra versucht er in die
Staaten zu fliehen... Flüchtlingsdrama und
Gangster-Movie in einem Film, der nicht
unbedingt schlecht ist. Doch beide Genre
wurden einzeln in anderen Filmen bereits
wesentlich eindringlicher dargestellt, z.B.
in CITY OF GOD. SIN NOMBRE besticht durch seine Kameraarbeit und vor
allem durch die Besetzung, die sehr authentisch wirkt.

Darsteller: Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend,

Mit 18 Jahren wird Victoria zur Königin
von England gekrönt. Doch bevor es soweit
ist, muss sich die junge Monarchin gegen
die Pläne ihrer Mutter zur Wehr setzen, die
einen Regenten an ihre Stelle setzten möchte. In Lord Melbourne findet sie einen
vermeintlichen Freund, der ihr zur Seite
steht. Doch auch er scheint sie nur zur
Durchsetzung seiner eigenen Interessen zu
gebrauchen. Erst in dem Prinzen Albert von
Coburg findet sie einen Untertützer ihrer
Politik – und ihre große Liebe. – Jean-Marc
Vallees opulent ausgestatteter Film ist
perfektes Historienkino mit allem was
dazugehört: herrlich sarkastische Dialoge,
tolle Kostüme, prachtvolle Locations.
Dazu gesellt sich ein hervorragendes Ensemble (vor allem Emily Blunt in der Rolle
der jungen Königin) und eine passende
Filmmusik von Ilan Eshkeri. Alles in allem
perfektes “Date”-Kino mit viel Gefühl.

Gangster, Flüchtlinge und eine Nanny
Gut unterhalten fühlte ich mich beim heutigen Einstieg in eine harte Presse-Woche...

Als einer armen Farmersfamilie, deren Vater sich im Krieg befindet, alles über den
Kopf wächst, taucht eine geheimnisvolle
ältere Dame auf, die ihre Dienste als
Nanny zur Verfügung stellt. Sie erteilt den
drei Farmerskindern sowie deren Cousin
und Cousine aus reichem Hause fünf Lektionen fürs Leben und rettet dadurch die
Farm vor dem Ruin... Wenn hier anfangs im
wahrsten Sinne des Wortes “auf die Kacke
gehauen wird”, dann täuscht der Eindruck.
Denn dem nach einer Idee von Emma
Thompson entstandene Fortsetzungsfilm
von EINE ZAUBERHAFTE NANNY gelingt es, nach einer recht deftigen Ouvertüre in gemäßigtere Gefilde zu steuern. Ab
hier darf dann auch herzhaft gelacht oder
geschmunzelt werden, beispielsweise beim
Wasserballett der kleinen Schweinchen
(perfekt computeranimiert versteht sich!).
Auch kommen jetzt richtige Gefühle nicht
mehr zu kurz und die Lektionen der Nanny
sind für jüngere Zuschauer gleichzeitig
pädagogisch wertvoll. Besonders hat mich
die gute Bildqualität sowie der wunderbare
Score von James Newton Howard erfreut.

Road-Movie trifft auf Breakdance
Der heutige Mittwoch stand ganz im Zeichen deutscher Produktionen. Ich war sehr
überrascht, dass mir die Dokumentation
sehr viel besser gefallen hat als der Spielfilm!
VINCENT WILL MEER (1:2.35, DD 5.1)

Nach dem Tod seiner Mutter wird der
27jährige Vincent, der am Tourette-Syndrom leidet, von seinem gefühlskalten Vater in eine Spezialklinik abgeschoben. Dort
lernt er die magersüchtige Marie kennen,
die ihn zu einer nächtlichen Spritztour mit
dem Auto der Klinikchefin überredet. Gemeinsam mit seinem zwangsneurotischen
Zimmergenossen Alexander macht sich das
Trio auf, um das Meer zu sehen... Das mit
schönen Bilderbuchpanoramen aufwartende
Road-Movie über drei Außenseiter hat
mich nicht restlos überzeugt. Besonders

auf die andere. Wesentlich besser getroffen
sind da die Charaktere des jungen Trios, im
Speziellen Florian David Fitz als Vincent
und Karoline Herfurth als Marie. Ein Film,
der insgesamt jedoch keinen prägenden
Eindruck hinterlässt.

stets das Damoklesschwert der Abschiebung. Im Verlaufe des Films entwickelt
man als Zuschauer große Sympathien für
Hassan, Maradona und Lial und versteht,
mit welchen Problemen und Ängsten ihr

Isar-Surfer und Tränendrüsen
Wahnsinn: heute hat schon wieder ein Dokumentarfilm das Rennen gemacht. Zumindest für mich.
KEEP SURFING (1:1.85, DD 5.1)

Kaum zu glauben aber wahr: schon seit
vielen Jahren zieht es begeisterte Surfer
magisch an die Isar! In seinem Dokumentarfilm stellt Regisseur Björn R. Lob sozusagen die Kernmannschaft der Isarsurfer
vor, die ganz schön viel riskieren um auf
einer Welle im Fluss reiten zu können. Ein
Kameramann, ein Instrumentenbauer und
ein Marketingfachmann erzählen davon,
wie es dazu kam, dass die bayerische
Hauptstadt zur Surfer-Metropole wurde.
Der unheimlich rasant geschnittene Film
arbeitet mit modernster Kameratechnik, um
die enthusiastischen Surfer bei ihrer Arbeit
auf den Wellen hautnah zu beobachten. Die
teilweise eingesetzte Split-Screen-Technik
hätte dabei allerdings wesentlich besser im
CinemaScope-Format gewirkt. Eingeblendete Namen werden leider in altbekannter
“SEVEN”-Manier verwackelt und pulsierend eingeblendet, was deren Lesbarkeit
erheblich reduziert. Selbes gilt für den gesamten Abspann. Dafür bietet der Film
aber ein mitreissendes Sounddesign, das
den Zuschauer inmitten der nassen und
gefährlichen Action platziert. Sehenswert.
kommt, muss eindeutig mit einem Nein
beantwortet werden. Die oberflächlichen
Charaktere sind genauestens nach Handbuch definiert, um den Bedürfnissen der
potenziellen Zielgruppe gerecht zu werden.
Sozusagen Rosamunde Pilcher für pubertierende Teenager. Es fehlt weder der Lover
aus reichem Hause, der von den Eltern
gegängelt wird, noch der heimlich sterbenskranke Vater, der das Herz seines
Töchterleins zurückerobern kann. Kino

wie all die anderen tapferen Jungs und Mädels aus seinem Heimatdorf. Durch Zufall
aber schließt er Freundschaft mit einem
Drachen und lernt eine ganz andere Seite
der fliegenden Bestien kennen. Er beschließt, sein Geheimnis dem ganzen Dorf
preiszugeben. Doch es kommt erst einmal
anders... Mit atemberaubender 3D-Technik
wird uns hier ein furioses, computeranimiertes Stück Kino auf die Leinwand
gebracht, das von der ersten bis zur letzten
Minute fesselt! Liebevoll gestaltete Charaktere und Locations und eine gelungene
deutsche Synchronisation, die den im Original vorhandenen starken schottischen
Einschlag mit bestem Ostfriesisch wett
macht, machen richtig Laune. Und dazu
gibt’s dann noch eine tolle sinfonische
Filmmusik von John Powell. Jetzt weiß ich
wieder, warum ich Kino liebe!

Selbstmordgeschichte recherchiert. Natürlich fliegen die Fetzen... Einer jener Filme,
bei denen man sich ernsthaft fragen muss,
ob es denn tatsächlich dafür eine Zielgruppe gibt! Der Film plätschert unspektakulär
vor sich hin und kann bestenfalls noch als
Einschlafhilfe im Fernsehen genutzt werden. Wobei ganz ehrlich gesagt ich bereits
im Kino mit Schlaf zu kämpfen hatte...

England 1974: Edward Dunford, Lokalreporter einer Yorkshire Tageszeitung, soll über
den Fall eines vermissten Mädchens berichten. Als diese ermordet aufgefunden wird,
beginnt er eine intensive Recherche und
stößt dabei auf einen Immobilienhai, der
ganz offensichtlich Dreck am Stecken hat.
Als kurz darauf ein Reporterkollege bei
einem mysteriösen Autounfall ums Leben
kommt, gerät auch Edward in Lebensgefahr... In düsteren Bildern erzählt Regisseur
Julian Jarrold im ersten Teil einer Trilogie
über den korrupten Norden Englands. Hier
geben sich Polizisten, Geschäftsmänner und
Politiker die Klinke in die Hand um ihren
persönlichen Profit daraus zu schlagen. Die
Geschichte ist leider relativ unspannend
erzählt und lässt an mancher Stelle auch
konsequente Logik vermissen. Die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Edward und der Mutter
einer vermissten Mädchens wirkt hier irgendwie aufgesetzt. Auch nicht nachvollziehbar erscheint die Tatsache, dass ausgerechnet Edwards Leben verschont wird, wo
doch bei seinem Kollegen kurzer Prozess
gemacht wird. An Originalschauplätzen gedreht und im Original Yorkshire Slang gesprochen vermittelt der Thriller immerhin
noch echtes Englandfeeling.

Der Film setzt exakt da ein wo Teil 1 aufhörte. Ein Sonderkommando wird zum Einsatz in jenes Mietshaus gerufen, in dem sich
angeblich ein tödliches Virus ausgebreitet
hat und für ein wahres Blutbad sorgte. Unter Führung eines vermeintlichen Wissenschaftlers dringt der Trupp in das hermetisch abgeriegelte Haus ein. Schon nach kurzer Zeit entwickelt sich ein extrem blutiger
Überlebenskampf... Wie schon der faszinierende erste Teil, der vor zwei Jahren in den
Kinos für Angst und Schrecken sorgte, bekommt der Kinozuschauer eigentlich nur die
Aufzeichnungen des Geschehens in Form
von Videoaufnahmen zu sehen. War es im
ersten Teil noch die Kamera eines TV-

Teams, so sind es jetzt die Kameras und
Mikrofone der untereinander vernetzten
Mitglieder des Sonderkommandos, welche
die Bilder und Töne liefern. Was der Film zu
Beginn an Spannung aufbaut, wird leider zur
Mitte hin jäh unterbrochen. Schuld daran ist
der Wechsel der Perspektive. Denn jetzt
werden die Videobilder plötzlich von eine
paar Teenagern geliefert, die sich aus reiner
Neugier Zugang in das Haus verschaffen und
damit ihr eigenes Schicksal besiegeln zu
scheinen. Nervig auch die Tatsache, dass die
Halbwüchsigen auch in allergrößter Todesgefahr weiterhin glasklare Videobilder liefern!
Derlei inszenatorische Ausschweifungen
bringen den Film leider an den Rande der
Lächerlichkeit. Da kann die ausgefeilte Tonspur auch nicht mehr retten was nicht mehr
zu retten ist. Schade darum.

Man schreibt das Jahr 2019. Schon lange
haben Vampire die Herrschaft über die Welt
übernommen. Menschen werden als Blutkonserven wie Hühner in einer Legebatterie
gehalten. Doch die Rohstoffe (sprich: das
Blut) werden immer knapper. Es gibt kaum
noch Menschen, die als Blutspender dienen
können. Mit Hochdruck arbeiten VampirWissenschaftler daran, Blutersatz herzustellen, um das Überleben ihrer Spezies zu garantieren. Eines Nachts bekommt
Hämatologe Edward Dalton, der mehr Sympathie für die Menschen hat, als den Vampiren lieb ist, Besuch von einer Nicht-VampirFrau, die ihm einen Deal anbietet. Offensichtlich hat ein im Geheimen operierendes
Häufchen von Menschen ein Mittel entdeckt, das aus Vampiren wieder Menschen
werden lässt... Mit DAYBREAKERS bringen die australischen Gebrüder Spierig im
wahrsten Sinne des Wortes frisches Blut in
das Vampirgenre. Ob man die Blutknappheit
nun als Metapher für die Verknappung der
Rohstoffe unserer Erde interpretiert oder
sich einfach nur auf ein bissiges, blutiges
Action-Spektakel einlassen möchte – das
Drehbuch der Spierigs bedient hier alle
Wünsche! Ein futuristisches ProductionDesign – wie geschaffen für die
CinemaScope-Linse – definiert perfekt den
gefühlskalten Stil, den der Film braucht.
Dazu die exzellente Filmmusik von Christopher Gordon und ein alle Register ziehendes
Sounddesign mit einer schier unglaublichen
Dynamik – so macht Kino wirklich Spaß!
Zu guter Letzt bietet DAYBREAKERS auch
noch eine Besetzung, der man gerne gewillt
ist, ihre Rollen abzukaufen. Sam Neill als
Obervampir könnte sogar einem Christopher
Lee Konkurrenz machen. Mein Tipp: unbe-

Um den grausamen Tod eines Kollegen zu
rächen, schleicht sich ein kleiner Trupp von
Cops in ein riesiges Mietshaus ein, um dort
unter den Mördern ein Blutbad anzurichten.
Die Pläne werden aber schnell zunichte gemacht, als sich die Gruppe urplötzlich mit
einer Horde von Zombies konfrontiert sieht.
Um zu überleben müssen Cops und Gangster zusammenarbeiten... Die Handlung des
Films könnte einem Videospiel entlehnt sein
und entpuppt sich sehr schnell als Alibi für
ein Schlachtfest übelster Art und damit als
gefundenes Fressen für Jugendschützer. Die
hier dargestellte Gewalt zielt einzig und
allein auf niedere Instinkte ab und wird ganz
sicher heftige Kürzungen bei der Veröffentlichung auf DVD zur Folge haben. Leider
fehlt der gezeigten extremen Gewalt jeglicher psychologische Vorbau, so dass der
Film vollkommen spannungslos dahinplätschert und dadurch möglicherweise nicht
einmal sein Zielpublikum bei Laune halten
dürfte. Farbreduziertes, langweiliges Franzosen-Kino.

Ein erfolgreiches Biogenetik-Forscherpaar
kreiert heimlich eine Kreuzung zwischen
Tier und Mensch. Das bizarre Wesen entwickelt sich zu einem Weiblein und wird
von den Eheleuten zunehmend als ihre eigene Tochter angesehen. Doch in ihm lauern
animalische Triebe, die bald eine tödliche
Gefahr darstellen... Nach vielen Jahren Pause meldet sich Vincenzo Natali wieder zurück auf die Leinwand und wandelt dieses
Mal auf den Spuren eines David
Cronenberg. Jedoch aber leider ohne dessen
Tiefenwirkung. Das Thema seines Films ist
brisant, scheint es doch in Wirklichkeit zum
Greifen nah. Doch die Unachtsamkeit der
Wissenschaftler beim Umgang mit ihrem
LASER HOTLINE
Genexperiment erscheint hier ziemlich aufgesetzt. Auch den Charakteren wird nicht
die notwendige Tiefe gegeben, um den Film
richtig fesselnd zu machen. Die visuellen
Effekte indes lassen nichts zu wünschen
übrig. Die Mischung aus Kaninchen und
Sexbombe wirkt absolut lebensecht. Hin und
wieder handelt sich Natalis Film allerdings
unfreiwillige Lacher bei den Zuschauern ein.
Sei es nun wenn das künstliche Wesen
plötzlich auch noch engelsgleiche Flügel
entwickelt oder es (und das ist sicherlich im
Sinne eines Cronenbergs!) zum Geschlechtsakt zwischen Forschermännchen und der
betörenden Kaninchenfrau kommt.

Der junge Fotograf Jamie leidet aufgrund
seines das Gesicht entstellenden Muttermals unter extremen Minderwertigkeitsproblemen. Schüchtern und ganz in sich
gekehrt verbringt er seine freie Zeit damit,
mit seinem Fotoapparat durch die nächtlichen Strassen Londons zu ziehen und Fotos
zu schießen. Dabei macht er eine gruselige
Entdeckung: in seinen Bildern tauchen Dämonen auf. Jamie sucht den Kontakt zu
ihnen und bekommt ein unwiderstehliches
Angebot: sein Gesicht wird vom Muttermal
befreit, wenn er dafür extrem brutale Morde
begeht. Jamie willigt ein... 14 Jahre ist es
bereits her, dass Regisseur Philip Ridley
einen Film abgeliefert hat. Die Erwartungen
waren daher sehr hoch. Und sie wurden
nicht enttäuscht. HEARTLESS ist ArthausKino vom Feinsten. Das Drama um den Pakt
mit dem Teufel erweist sich als vielschichtiges, symbolträchtiges Verwirrspiel, das die
enthaltenen Horrorelemente nur als Metaphern nutzt. Trotzdem sollte man vorgewarnt sein ob einer äußerst brutalen Mordsequenz, an der Meister Hitchcock ganz
sicher seine Freude gehabt hätte. Matt
Grays digitale CinemaScope-Fotografie
rückt den Schauplatz East London ins rechte Licht und David Julyans Score sorgt akustisch für die richtige Stimmung. Jim
Sturgess brilliert in seiner Darstellung des
geplagten Jamie und Eddie Marsan liefert
einmal mehr einen aberwitzigen Gastauftritt
als des Teufels rechte Hand ab. Ein Geheimtipp!

Was liegt da näher, als bei eben jener
Juweliersfamilie einzubrechen, deren Haus
er gerade mit Alarmanlagen ausgestattet hat.
Und das Beste: die ganze Familie ist vereist.
Sein Coup scheint aufzugehen. Doch als er
gerade dabei ist, den Safe zu öffnen, hört er
furchtbare Schreie aus dem Lüftungsschacht:
Arkin ist nicht allein im Haus... Der mit
Abstand blutigste und abartigste Beitrag bei
den Fantasy Filmfest Nights konnte leider
nur in der Kategorie “Brutalität“ überzeugen. Der Erstlingsfilm von Marcus Dunstan,
der bislang nur für einige der SAW-Sequels
die Drehbücher lieferte, beweist aufs Neue,
dass der Herr offensichtlich nichts anderes
als “Torture Porn” gelernt hat. Das substanzlose Werk nutzt sein Potenzial nur zur
Präsentation von immer fieser werdenden
Todesarten und zelebriert diese lustvoll und
genüsslich. Für eine echte Dramaturgie oder
gar Charakterzeichnung zur Erhöhung der
Spannung ist in diesem Film leider kein
Platz vorgesehen. Und das Schlimmste: eine
Fortsetzung wird am Ende bereits suggeriert!

Schulkameraden wieder. Als eine damals zu
Tode gekommene Mitschülerin plötzlich vor
der Tür steht, wird die Gruppe mit den
dramatischen Ereignissen aus der gemeinsamen Vergangenheit konfrontiert, die sich in
einem Grusellabyrinth zugetragen haben...
Mit seinen nur knapp 90 Minuten Spielzeit
schafft es Takashi Shimizu tatsächlich, seinem Publikum gefühlte vier Stunden Lauflänge zu suggerieren! Der mit Abstand
langweiligste Film der Fantasy Filmfest
Nights kommt einfach nicht von der Stelle
und dreht sich – wie man das vom japanischen Kino fast schon gewohnt ist – ständig
im Kreis. Das junge Schauspielerensemble
tut ein Übriges, damit man sich als Zuschauer in Anbetracht des fehlenden Talents gehörig genervt fühlt. Und die vielen Rückblenden mit ihrem milchig-matschigen und überbelichteten Look führen automatisch dazu,
dass man ständig versucht ist, die Gläser
seiner 3D-Brille zu putzen. Einen Pluspunkt hat der Langweiler aber immerhin:
seine 3D-Fotografie. Denn die wird hier sehr
wirkungsvoll eingesetzt und lässt einen speziell dann Gruseln, wenn das vermeintlich
tote Mädchen ihre Hand virtuell ins Publikum streckt.
