SYNOPSYS
Jaguaribe Valley, Northeast Brazil. Departing from the seacoast, we follow the
path of the Aracati wind, sweeping into the heartland. Along the course, we
observe the relationship between man and landscape, spatial transformations
and the limits separating nature from artifice.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
From six years now, we have travelled several times through the Jaguaribe Valley.
If at first we would like to make a film about the wind, after these experiences we
started to perceive that the landscapes were changing very fast, as much as the
ways of life and people’s sense of temporality. Then, we discovered that the wind
was much a driving force that would blow this journey through the region, as a
wind movie.
The documentary then carries the spectator through a regional journey,
introducing us to its characters, as it evokes a flow of sensations and small
perceptions. It's about mankind, nature and technology competing for the same
space, where different forces must coexist. Each character brings a different
perspective of changing spaces and leads the viewer by these landscapes
portraits.
The project comes out of a desire to know places and ways of life where the
prosaic and intense converge as man meets wind. During those years of research,
we have shot two short films, Aracati Wind (2014) and Study for the Wind (2011). In
2016, we have already scheduled a travelling showcase of the three films, to be
seen in all small cities where we shot.
