NRHA European Country Ranking
With a total score of 445.5 Austria won the country ranking with the Netherlands following with a total score of 341. Belgium placed third scoring 332.5. The following countries were England (167), Germany (145), Sweden (127), Italy (121),
the Czech Republic (100), Finland (96), Slovakia (94,5), Hungary (68,5), Switzerland (59), Norway (31,5) and Spain
(22). Altogether 14 nations competed at the 2012 NRHA European Affiliate Championship – more than ever before!

The Novice Horse Open was the last of the NRHA Ancillary shows of the
NRHA European Affiliate Championship 2012 in Wiener Neustadt. In a
field of 32 entries, the winner was Bernard Fonck/BEL aboard Spook A
Little/owner Rosanne Sternberg. The 6-year-old stallion by Smart Spook
scored a 143.5. Bernard also managed to ride Splendit As Gump BB to
second place scoring a 142.5. The 7-year-old gelding by Little Gump which
was Belgian Futurity Champion is owned by 23 Quarter Horses. Gennaro
Lendi (ITA) and Ima Mega Antares/owner Andreas Castrucci, placed third
scoring a 142.

Julia Gaupmann claims second
European Champion title!
For the second time at this NRHA European Affiliate Championship, Julia Gaupmann (AUT) claimed a European Champion title. After becoming Co-Champion in
the EC Rookie aboard LV Smart Lady, she
now earned the NRHA European Champion title in Limited Non Pro. Aboard her
7-year-old stallion Cody Rooster Delmaso
(Ricochet Rooster x Made Of Lacy) she
scored a 213.5 in a field of 33 winning this
class. Susy Baeck (BEL) and 2011 NRHA
European Champion Non Pro Gumpy
Grumpy BB (By Little Gump) placed second scoring a 212.5. Agnes Csolle (HUN)
aboard Hes A Frozen Breeze and Leonoor
de Bruin (NED) aboard Wimp Cream tied
for third place scoring a 212.
The 18-year-old who just finished high
school was so happy about her success:
„This is the biggest success I had so far.
I still cannot believe it. Rooster is a great
horse – I love him. It was my first big show
with this stallion and he was fantastic.
Klaus Lechner and his father trained him.
A special thanks to my trainer Markus Morawitz – he ist the best trainer for me, as he
adapted his program especially for me.”
Julia started riding western in 2006 and already earned ten Austrian Champion titles
in Allaround. Since this year, she only
concentrates on reining. She’s been riding
with Markus Morawitz for three years now
whom she got to know when she bought
LV Smart Lady. „Julia did an excellent
job,“ Markus said afterwards. „She rode
her mare perfectly in the rookie, and also
did well with Rooster.“ Julia’s next goals
now are the Euroflex Maturity in Weikersdorf and the NRHA European Derby.

NRHA European Affiliate Championship 2012:
Limited Open European Champion:
Klaus Lechner & KH Hes A Smart Jac
In a field of 19, Klaus Lechner and KH Hes
A Smart Jac (Smart Spook x DD Playin
Jacky) claimed the European Champion
title Limited Open EC mit 4.5 points ahead
of the second placed. Markus Morawitz’
young co-trainer gave a brilliant performance scoring a 218.5.
The 5-year-old stallion KH Hes A Smart Jac
was bred by his owner Franz Lechner. Before the show, the horse’s LTE were $ 1500
NRHA. For Klaus Lechner, the Champion
title was another milestone in his career. In
2011, he was NRHA SBH Open Champion
in Weikersdorf, fourth at the FEI European
Reining Championship Young Riders and
at the Austrian Futurity Ltd. Open. During
the 2011 NRHA European Championship
he placed 9th in Ltd. Open aboard Cody
Rooster Delmaso.
The Reserve Champion title was earned
by Valentina Sagmeister (AUT) and Smart
Colonel Nic (Smart Chic Olena x Miss Kitty Nic). Valentina, who started her trainer’s
career here at the Western Star facility in
Wiener Neustadt, and got self-employed
last year, scored a 214 after a fine ride
aboard the 10-year-old gelding owned by
Gottfried Kugerl. Valentina was 2011 Austrian State Champion and two times Austrian Reining Champion as well as Austrian
Futurity Open finalist. With Smart Colonel
Nic she won the ARHA Ladies Open in
Weikersdorf 2012.
Miroslav Baniari rode two horses on third
place scoring a 213.5: Doris Durr‘s Peanuts Kid and Gabriele Schindl’s SL Lil
Peppy Chex (by Lil Dry Peppy). With the-
se two horses, Vern Sapergia’s young cotrainer was Res. Champion Int. Open resp.
Ltd. Open at the Spring Time Classic 2012.
Peanuts Kid (Mr Tori Kid x Do The Shake)
is a 10-year-old gelding, that was already
shown successfully by Vern Sapergia.

Great Sun Burst did it again: after winning
the Non Pro Bronze Trophy at the NRHA
European Championship with his owner
Manuel Bonzano (ITA), the sorrel stallion
by Einstein earned for Manuel the NRHA
European Champion title Non Pro scoring
a 222.5. In fact, it was the third EC title
for this wonderful stallion which was also
two times NRHA World Champion Open.
With Bernard Fonck in the saddle, Great
Sun Burst was NRHA European Champion Open in 2010 and 2011. Here in Wiener
Neustadt, he once more impressed with his
exceptional manuevres – the judges gave
up to +1 ½ on his spins.
„I still can’t believe it nor can I find the
right words for this,“ said Manuel Bonzano
happily. „You cannot ask for more. Great
Sun Burst is an incredible horse. He is so
strong – both in his mind and in his body,
and yet such a sweet horse and easy to ride.
I’d like to thank my trainer Bernard Fonck
and his wife Ann. They

are very professional and seem to think about everything. For me,
they are the best. I’d also like to thank Helmut Schulz and his team
for this wonderful event. I know how difficult it is to organize such
a big show so perfectly and take care that everybody is happy.”
Last year’s European Champion and 2011 NRHA World Champion
Non Pro Claudio Risso (ITA) and his great Spat A Blue (by Spat
Olena) had a penalty in the spin and left the arena with a 221.5
which was the Reserve Champion title.
And NRHA World Res. Champion Non Pro Tina Kuenstner-Mantl
(AUT) and her Heza Sure Whiz had bad luck as well. After a superb run with breathtaking spins and beautiful circles, the stallion
somehow slipped in the second stop. 220.5 was the final score for a
run that could have been the winning one.

An unbelievably high class NRHA EC
Open ended the 2012 NRHA European
Championship. 15 great horse-rider-combinations had qualified for this class – which
was reining at its best for the visitors. Just
fancy: in the end a 221 was 8th place…
As the second rider, Bernard Fonck (BEL)
and BH Most Wanted (owner Marjon Nieuwenhuijs) scored a 226.5 which was the
score to beat. And it was the fourth but last
rider who did it: Rudi Kronsteiner (AUT)
aboard Hollywood Yankee Kid (owner
Heike Nixdorf & Mario Karner). Incredible spins, stops and circles - and the result
was a 230.5! This was show highscore as
well as NRHA European Affiliate Champion Open – the third one for Million Dollar
Rider Rudi Kronsteiner.
Hollywood Yankee Kid is an 11-year-old
palomino stallion by Rowdy Yankee out
of Sunshine Yellow Kid, who had NRHA
LTE of over $105,000 even before this
event. The horse is multiple Bronze Trophy Champion and placed 4th at the 2010
NRHA European Championship . The Nixdorf family bought the stallion at Grischa
Ludwig’s place. Grischa showed him successfully for some time. Last summer Rudi
Kronsteiner got the stallion and won e.g.
the Open Trophy at the EquitaLyon with
him (score 229).
„Tonight everything worked out fine with
the two of us,“ said Rudi Kronsteiner. „The
horse did a wonderful job. I’m very happy
about the title – it’s something very special.
Thank you to Helmut and his crew. It is always a pleasure to be here. You feel very
welcome here.“

Futurity Champion Level 1 and Austrian
Limited Open Futurity Champion with
Roy Van Der Hoeven in the saddle.
