Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex for
today’s Little East Conference doubleheader between the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs and your
Rhode Island College Anchorwomen.
WELCOME TO FAN APPRECIATION DAY
The Rhode Island College Athletic Department is hosting Fan Appreciation Day as your
Anchorwomen take on the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth in a doubleheader today. A free slice
of pizza, courtesy of This Guy’s Pizza, will be provided to all fans in attendance during the first
game of the doubleheader.
SENIOR DAY
Today is Senior Day at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex. In between games, Rhode Island
College will be honoring its four outstanding seniors: first baseman/pitcher JESSICA BORDEN,
catcher NICOLE CLEMENS, second baseman MARISA JANDREAU and first baseman/pitcher
EMILY JOHNSON.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore third baseman JUSTINA THOMA went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI,
while junior pitcher MICHELLE SYLVESTRE hurled a complete game four-hitter, as Rhode
Island College bounced back to take game two of a doubleheader, 13-3 (5), at Keene State in Little
East Conference softball action. The Owls took out RIC in the first game, 9-1 (6).
THE ANCHORWOMEN AT A GLANCE
The Anchorwomen have been led offensively by Pokora, who leads the team in batting average
(.419), hits (39), doubles (8), homers (7), RBI (19), walks (14), stolen bases (6), runs scored (27),
total bases (70), on-base percentage (.491) and slugging percentage (.753). Thoma is hitting .333
with six doubles, one homer, 16 RBI and 16 runs scored, while Jandreau is hitting .339 with seven
doubles, two triples, one homer, 12 RBI, five stolen bases and 21 runs scored. In the pitching circle,
Johnson leads the Anchorwomen with a 7-4 record, 58 strikeouts, seven complete games, and a
4.89 ERA in 68.2 innings of work. Borden is 3-4 with 13 strikeouts, four complete games, and a
4.30 ERA in 42.1 innings, while Sylvestre is 3-5 with 24 strikeouts, four complete games, and a
3.25 ERA in 60.1 innings pitched.
THE CORSAIRS AT A GLANCE
UMass Dartmouth stands at 11-23 with a 3-7 record in conference play. The Corsairs have
recently won back-to-back tilts after dropping 10 straight contests through the month of April.
Junior shortstop EMILY PONTES is hitting .384 with eight doubles, four triples, 22 RBI, six
stolen bases and 19 runs scored to pace the offense. Sophomore second baseman STEPHANIE
GREGOIRE is hitting .308 with six doubles, one triple, 13 RBI, four stolen bases and 20 runs
scored, while sophomore center fielder OLIVIA KENYON owns a .322 average at the dish to
go along with six doubles, 15 RBI, nine walks, three stolen bases and 15 runs scored. Freshman
right-hander SHANNON ORTON has carried the pitching staff for UMD. Through 17 games,
she has made 12 starts and owns a 4-10 record with 63 strikeouts, 10 complete games, and a 2.59
ERA in 94.2 innings pitched.

Pokora went 3-for-6 with four runs scored, a homer, two RBI and two stolen bases, while Borden
hurled a complete game shutout, as Rhode Island College swept UMass Dartmouth, 6-0, 6-2, in
Little East Conference softball action played at the UMD Athletic Complex on April 24, 2012.
