Stackable keg, easy handling, offering best-of-practise encoding logistics. Task Development of stackable, easy to handle and rapid to cool returnable party kegsystem with an integrated CO2 -dispensing gas supply to provide a complete draught system not only for the party sector. Initial After the first presentation of the new keg-system at Drinktec-Interbrau 2001, additional technical and quality control testing was done, including performing a market test in March 2002. Further development was done in collaboration with the Krombacher Brewery. Finally, in the autumn of 2002, the 11 litre freshKEG was launched. Market-capturing Innovation in the Party Sector To consolidate their prominent position within the gastronomy sector Krombacher Brewery was on the look-out for an easy to handle, secure, and rapid to cool returnable container system. They decided to develop and launch into the market a new type of keg together with beverages' container manufacturer Schäfer Werke GmbH. Since the late 1990's the market trend in the party, home and catering sectors called for a user-friendly, secure, and easy to cool container with perfect dispensing qualities. Schäfer Werke, an internationally leading innovator in the field of beverages' containers, accepted this challenge and developed a small keg in collaboration with the Krombacher Brewery, which combines the features of a small dispensing equipment with the high-grade standards met in the gastronomy sector. With its two-chamber system, freshKEG is a perfect dispensing system for all kinds of beverages. One chamber is for the beverage, the other for the dispensing gas. Light, flexible, mobile, and with ”CO2 inside”, freshKEG with its two-chamber system provides unique drinking joy and keeps beer fresh for weeks even after the first glass has been tapped. The re-usable container, based on DIN 6647-1& 2, is made out of stainless steel, which is neutral in taste. It has ergonomically moulded handles, which guarantee optimal handling, top and bottom rings made of polypropylene, stable under ultraviolet light, and fully recyclable, with safety fittings, operating pressure of 3 bar, a safety burst point, a dispensing head with integrated compensator and automatic pressure adapter, and an encoding system according to customer requirements for best-ofpractise logistics. The compact system, thanks to its integrated CO2 supply, keeps beverages fresh for weeks after first tapping. Beverages such as beer, wine, sparkling 2 wine, table water, soft drinks or juices are ideally filled into freshKEG, as its light weight and innovative design guarantees easy transport and handling. The container system is constructed in such way that it is not only suited for party service. For instance, during big events the beverage may be brought to the customers in cooling backpacks. The freshKEG container system has turned out to be extremely popular with consumers, as notwithstanding the precarious economic situation. In 2004 Krombacher was able to sell 30 per cent more freshKEG fillings compared to 2003. Integrated dispensing gas supply. Always ready for use - anywhere. Easy to handle. Easy to cool and to keep cool, stackable. High beverages' quality through stainless steel container. Long shelf life of the beverage, long time after the first beer is tapped. Easy filling of beverages and the dispense gas. Customer's Benefit Ordering Party Krombacher Brauerei Bernhard Schadeberg GmbH & Co.
