Babenhausen, the market city of the Fugger dynasty, lies in the
northwestern part of the district of Lower Allgaeu in the attractive
countryside of the Guenz Valley. As the main city and seat of the
largest administrative collectivity of the district, the subcentral city of
Babenhausen is the choice location of numerous medium-sized
businesses from the areas of commerce and industry as well as of
service providers and handicraft enterprises from all sectors, which
together furnish approx. 2,000 jobs. Among the various banks present,
the Raiffeisenbank Iller-Roth-Guenz e.G., the Sparklasse
Memmingen-Lindau-Mindelheim, theHypovereinsbank and the
Saliterbank may be cited.
The state-approved health resort is divided into the suburbs Babenhausen Klosterbeuren and
Unterschoenegg and it offers a wide variety of possibilities for recreational activities. Due to the vicinity of
federal highway B300 and freeways A 7 and A 96 the market city possesses good traffic connections, which is
a site factor that is essential for commercial businesses.
A broad expanse of social services and facilities beginning with a school center including a primary school, an
intermediate school and a secondary school and extending up to a group of clubs catering to diverse
interests, besides the immediate vicinity of natural surroundings, all contribute to the quality of life of the
citizens. The three kindergartens (Kindergarten guter Hirte [Good Shepherd], Kindergarten Sternschnuppe
[Shooting Star], Kindergarten Griesbach), the senior citizens center with outpatient health care services, the
Red Cross on-call service and the youth educational and meeting center supplement the many-sided
opportunities. Since September 2009 we also have a nursery school for children from six months to three
years of age in the city. Furthermore, Babenhausen has a branch office of the adult education center of
Memmingen. Among the sights worth visiting are the Fugger Castle with the Fugger Museum and the "Am
Espach" Theater.
Currently 5,158 residents live on a surface area of 6,730 acres. Nearly 115 acres are zoned for industrial
usage and the trade tax factor amounts to 290 percent.
