Introduction
LCOS („LANCOM Operating System“) is the operating system for all Wireless LAN Access Points and
Routers. In the context of the hardware given by the products the at a time latest LCOS version is available
for all LANCOM products and is available free of charge for dowload from LANCOM Systems.
This document describes the innovations within LCOS software release 7.12, as well as the modifications
since release 7.00.
Warning Hint – Backing up the current configuration
Before upgrading the firmware to LCOS 7.12 it is essential to backup the configuration of your router.
Due to extensive features it is not possible to downgrade to a previous firmware without using the
backup configuration.
Please see the reference manual for instructions on how to backup the router configuration.
If you want to upgrade devices which are only accessible via router connections or WLAN bridges,
please keep in mind to upgrade the remote device first and the local device afterwards.
Note when using certificates
Prior to loading certificates into the LANCOM you must install the current converter. The appropriate
converter file can be found in your device’s download directory on the LANCOM homepage. Flashing
the converter file works similar to a firmware upgrade.
Note when using converter firmwares
You will need enough free memory to use a firmware 7.12 and newer in your LANCOM 15x1, 1611+,
821+ and DSL/I-10+.
Due to the implementation of several new features within the current build of the firmware, it is no
longer possible to store two main firmware versions side by side. To gain more free space for the
current version, it is now necessary to upload a converter firmware into your device. The converterfirmware has a much smaller size, so that it is now possible to store the main release of the firmware
besides the converter-firmware.
This setup is only necessary once for a single device and is done with the so-called converterfirmware (see readme.pdf of the affected devices).
After having flashed the converter-firmware the firmsave function of the LANCOM device is available
only on a limited scale. The update to a newer firmware is furthermore possible. However, in case of
an update failure the LANCOM will only work with a minimal-firmware which allows just local access
to the device. Any extended functionality, in particular remote administration, is not possible when
running the minimal-firmware.
To assure the full firmsafe functionality for the LANCOM 1611+, there is a firmware 7.13 alternatively
available which offers only bugfixes but no new features.
Note about the ASDL linecode
LCOS versions 5.20 and newer do contain a new ADSL linecode for LANCOM 821+, 1521, 1721 and
1821. This new linecode supports ADSL2+ for LANCOM 821+, 1721, 1722 and 1821(from rev. E).
For the LANCOM 1521, this linecode supports ADSL2. Needless to say that conventional ADSL
interfaces are furthermore supported. Anyhow, there is an LCOS version 5.21 (6.x1...) available,
which solely uses the previous ADSL linecode, and may alternatively be used.

Note on Dynamic VPN registration
By reason of patent you have to register the functionality „ Dynamic VPN“ with IP address
transmission over ISDN. This operating mode is usually required when you configure a VPN tunnel
with dynamic IP addresses on both sides without dynamic DNS services.
All other Dynamic VPN operation modes (e.g. transmitting the IP address via ICMP, provoking a
callback etc.) do not require a registration.
The registration process is fully anonymous - no personal or company data will be transmitted.
The registration of the Dynamic VPN option requires administrator rights on the LANCOM device.
Registration with LANconfig
When scanning the device (e.g. right after program start) LANconfig automatically recognizes
devices which have to be activated. After confirming the arising hint LANconfig automatically
transmits solely the device’s serial number to the LANCOM Systems registration server. The
registration code is automatically transmitted back, thus the option will be activated. The state of this
procedure is visible in LANconfig.
Registration with WEBconfig
For the registration with WEBconfig the serial number of the device is required. You can find this
information on the bottom of your device.
Using WEBconfig you will find a link on the first page which leads you to the LANCOM Systems
registration server. Here you must enter your device’s serial number and –optional-your e-mail
address. After transmitting the data you will receive a registration code for the option.
To load this code into your device, please proceed as follows:
Log in to the device with administrator rights. Select “ Enable Software Option” , which is placed on
the entry page. On the following page enter the registration code and confirm by selecting “ Apply” .

Remarks
If you want to upgrade the firmware of your device to a new version, please install the latest LANtools first.
Before running the firmware-upload you should save the router configuration to a file. After that you
can use LANconfig to load the latest LCOS-version into the device.
In principle, we suggest upgrading the firmware of your device only if you are in need of the latest features.
Please note that different firmware files might be available for your device. Further information can be found
in the file README.PDF in the download area of our homepage.

Einleitung
LCOS („LANCOM Operating System“) ist das Betriebssystem für alle LANCOM Router und Wireless
LAN Access Points. Im Rahmen der von den Produkten vorgegebenen Hardware ist die jeweils
aktuelle LCOS Version für alle LANCOM Produkte verfügbar und wird von LANCOM Systems
kostenlos zum Download angeboten.
Dieses Dokument beschreibt die Neuerungen der LCOS Software Release 7.12, sowie die
Änderungen zur Release 7.00.
Warnhinweis
Bitte sichern Sie vor dem Update Ihrer LANCOM-Geräte auf die LCOS-Version 7.12 unbedingt
Ihre Konfigurationsdateien!
Wegen der umfangreichen Feature-Erweiterungen ist ohne eine solche Sicherung ein
Downgrade auf die alte Firmware nicht mehr automatisch möglich.
Wenn Sie Geräte, die Sie nur über eine Routerverbindung oder WLAN Brücken erreichen
können, updaten möchten, bedenken Sie bitte, dass Sie zuerst das remote LANCOM und
anschliessend das lokale Gerät updaten.
Hinweis zur Verwendung von Zertifikaten
Bevor Sie Zertifikate in das LANCOM laden können, müssen Sie den aktuellen Konverter
installieren. Die entsprechende Konverterdatei finden Sie im Downloadbereich Ihres Gerätes.
Der Upload des Konverters wird genau wie ein Firmwareupdate durchgeführt.
Hinweis zur Verwendung von Konvertern
Damit Sie eine Firmware ab Version 7.12 in Ihrem LANCOM 15x1, 1611+, 821+ und DSL/I-10+
nutzen können, muss im Speicher Ihres Gerätes genügend Platz vorhanden sein.
Durch zahlreiche neue Funktionen in der Firmware ist es bei Ihrem Gerät jetzt nicht mehr
möglich, zwei vollwertige Firmwareversionen gleichzeitig zu speichern. Um mehr Platz im
Speicher zu schaffen, muss statt einer vollwertigen Firmware zunächst eine eingeschränkte,
kleinere Firmware eingerichtet werden. Hierdurch steht für die andere Firmware im Gerät
erheblich mehr Speicher zur Verfügung.
Diese Einrichtung ist nur einmalig erforderlich und wird mit der so genannten " KonverterFirmware" durchgeführt (siehe Liesmich.pdf der betroffenen Geräte).
Nach dem Einspielen der Konverter-Firmware steht die Firmsafe Funktion des LANCOM nur
noch in eingeschränktem Umfang zur Verfügung. Das Update auf eine neuere Firmware ist
weiterhin
problemlos möglich. Das LANCOM arbeitet nach einem fehlgeschlagenen Update
jedoch mit einer Minimalfirmware, die Ihnen ausschließlich den lokalen Zugriff auf das Gerät
erlaubt. Alle erweiterten Funktionalitäten, insbesondere die Remote Administration, sind nicht
verfügbar, solange die Minimalfirmware aktiv ist.
Um dem LANCOM 1611+ weiterhin die volle Firmsafe-Funktionalität zu sichern, gibt es für
diesen Router alternativ eine Firmware 7.13, welche lediglich Bugfixes und keine neuen
Features enthält.

Hinweis
Die LCOS Versionen ab 5.20 enthalten für LANCOM 821+, 1521, 1721, 1722, 1821 einen neuen
ADSL Linecode. Dieser neue Linecode beinhaltet für die Geräte 821+, 1721, 1722 und 1821 (ab
Release E) die ADSL2+ Unterstützung. Das 1521 kann mit diesem Linecode an ADSL2
Anschlüssen betrieben werden. Weiterhin wird natürlich auch der normale ADSL Anschluss
unterstützt.
Dennoch bieten wir für diese Geräte alternativ eine LCOS Version 5.21 (6.x1…) an, die den
bisherigen ADSL Linecode verwendet.
Aus patentrechtlichen Gründen muss die Verwendung der Funktion „ Dynamic VPN“ mit
Übertragung der IP-Adressen über den ISDN-Anschluss lizensiert werden. Diese Betriebsart
kommt in der Regel dann zum Einsatz, wenn Sie VPN-Kopplungen mit beidseitig dynamischen
IP-Adressen nutzen und dabei keine Dynamic-DNS-Dienste verwenden. Alle anderen
Betriebsarten von Dynamic VPN (also die Übermittlung der IP Adresse per ICMP, das
Anklopfen bei der Gegenstelle per ISDN, um einen Rückruf herbeizuführen etc.) sind davon
nicht betroffen.
Die Registrierung erfolgt anonym über das Internet, es werden keine personen- oder
unternehmensspezifische Daten übertragen.
Zur Registrierung der “ Dynamic VPN” Option benötigen Sie Administratorrechte auf dem
LANCOM-Router.
LANconfig erkennt beim Prüfen der Geräte z.B. direkt nach dem Programmstart automatisch,
wenn ein Gerät aufgrund seiner Konfiguration registriert werden muss. Nach der Bestätigung
der entsprechenden Meldung überträgt LANconfig automatisch ausschließlich die
Seriennummer des Gerätes an den Registrierungsserver von LANCOM Systems. Der
Freischaltcode wird dann ebenfalls automatisch an das Gerät zurückübertragen und aktiviert.
Der Vorgang kann in der Statuszeile von LANconfig beobachtet werden.
Zur Registrierung über WEBconfig wird die Chargen- bzw. Seriennummer des zu
registrierenden Produkts benötigt. Sie finden diese Informationen auf der Unterseite des
Gerätes.
Beim Anmelden auf dem Gerät mit WEBconfig finden Sie auf der Startseite einen Link, der Sie
zum Formular auf dem Registrierungsserver von LANCOM Systems führt. Geben Sie dort die
Chargen/Seriennummer des Gerätes und auf Wunsch Ihre Emailadresse an.
Nach dem Absenden der Registrierungsanforderung erhalten Sie den Freischaltcode für das
Gerät. Um diesen Freischaltcode in Ihren Router zu laden, gehen Sie bitte wie folgt vor:
Melden Sie sich mit Administratorrechten unter WEBconfig auf dem entsprechenden Gerät an.
Wählen Sie auf der Startseite den Eintrag „ Software-Option freischalten“ aus. Geben Sie auf
der folgenden Seite den Freischaltcode ein und bestätigen Sie mit „ Setzen“ .

Die Anzeige der ADSL-Status LED wurde angepasst.
Die im PPP übermittelte IP-Adresse der Gegenseite wird nun bei allen Geräten angezeigt.
Passive FTP-Verbindungen können wieder invers maskiert werden.
Gespräche zwischen 2 ISDN-Bussen sind nicht mehr gestört.
In der Port-Forwarding Tabelle kann der „End-Port“ den Wert „0“ annehmen, wenn der End-Port
gleich dem Anfangs-Port sein soll.
Die VoIP-User werden nach Weiterverbinden eines einkommenden Rufs nicht mehr doppelt in
der VoIP-User Tabelle angezeigt.
Bemerkungen
Wenn Sie Ihr Gerät auf eine neue Version aufrüsten wollen, installieren Sie bitte zuerst die aktuellen
LANtools. Vor dem Firmware-Upload sollten Sie die Konfigurationsdatei des Routers sichern.
Anschließend können Sie im Programm LANconfig über den Button „Firmware-Upload“ die aktuelle
LCOS Version in das Gerät laden.
Grundsätzlich empfehlen wir Ihnen ein Firmwareupdate nur dann durchzuführen, wenn Sie eines der
neuen Features benötigen.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass es für Ihr Gerät verschiedene Upload-Dateien geben kann. Weitere
