KKL-JNF greenXchange For a sustainable future Seminar Program Germany, August 15th – 23rd 2012 Jüdischer Nationalfonds e.V. - Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (JNF-KKL) Berlin, August 2012 www.greenxchange.de Welcome Address Dear participants of the second greenXchange seminar, After having a very successful first seminar in Israel last year I am happy that you were successful to organize the second seminar – this time in Germany. The same seminar model should exist also in the future: Establishing every second year a new group – having one seminar in Israel and the second one in Germany (Europe) with the help of the greenXchange veterans. Many of the last year participants continue this year and those who cannot participate are still interested to be involved – absolutely a good sign! This year we are also expanding the program to other European countries with the ultimate goal to make it a European – Israeli program based on a core group containing Germany and Israel. I welcome the German and Israeli newcomers to the full program and the new participants from the other countries to part of the program – to taste it, get enthusiastic and come next year to the full seminar in Israel with some new members from their countries. JNF-KKL as the leading environmental organization in Israel has a desire to develop a strong Young Leadership programs and has high expectations from our greenXchange program. I hope that during this seminar we will be able to come up with some meaningful themes/projects in which greenXchange participants will be active while having an impact on environmental issues in Israel as well as in Germany (Europe). Special thanks to Judith Strasser who is responsible for the Young Leadership activities at KKL Israel for her devotion to this program, to Annette, the greenXchange coordinator in Berlin, who has been the glue during the entire year, to the entire content group who put so much effort in organizing this event and to all other members who were active in setting up and/or being active in establishing the web site, facebook, giving presentations and other activities in Germany, Israel and Prague. I wish you a very successful and joyful seminar with good results for the future of the environment and the greenXchange program. The work was performed at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environmental sciences, Rehovot. Her work analyzed effects of plant biodiversity on productivity and ecosystem functioning with the overall aim to increase the transfer of atmospheric carbon to the terrestrial biomass and soil organic matter. Particularly carbon fluxes under extended droughts were analyzed, because these processes become increasingly relevant in the context of global change. Between 1998 and 2005, Inga studied “Physical Geography” at the University of Trier with strong focus on global change issues, such as ‘Grazing and land degradation in the central Ebro Basin (NE Spain)’ and ‘Glaciers, tree line and natural hazards in high Mountain ecosystems (Alpes)’. In 2001/2002 she joined the UN trainee program in Nairobi, where she worked on effects of land tenure systems on land degradation in various agricultural ecosystems. Inga cooperated on the partnership program between the Kenyatta University and Trier University, seeking for sponsors to invite a group of 10 Kenyan students to Germany, and organizing field trips. Inga was born in Wesel (NRW, Germany) and learnt to speak English (fluently) and Spanish, French and Hebrew (less intensively). Dikla gained her experience in international initiatives mainly through her EVS (European Voluntary Service) in Kokkola, Finland. Working for the international department, she initiated and implemented different projects promoting EU agendas to young adults (e.g. footprint awareness, sustainable society etc.) Living in Finland for over four years, she has developed a clearer environmental awareness and been exposed to a growing trend among the business world; the social demand for corporate’s social responsibility. She believes, as a future professional in the business world, that by joining the greenXchange she could emphasize and elevate better environmental friendly agendas in the business world together with social awareness. Dikla believes there is a huge potential for this project and its future beneficial networking and synergy among all countries.
