Special thanks goes out to Capri Restaurant, Benny’s Pizza, LaNotte Café, and Brando’s for donating the gift certificates for some of our raffle prizes. The large screen TV was a big hit as one of the raffles prizes along with IACOB shirts and more. The club ended up making over $500 on the event and a great time was had by the 60 plus members and friends that attended. They are very much associated with the same festival in Naples. The origin of zeppole, or zippula in Sicilian, comes from the Arabic zalābiyya meaning fried soft dough. Even today, in Egypt, they are called zalābiyya. A traveler to Tunisia of the Middle Ages was cAbdalbasiṭ ibn Ḥalīl, an Egyptian, whose two manuscripts detailing his journeys from 1460 to 1470 in Tunisia are in the Vatican Library.
