Conference News
Fifth Annual Midwest Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium
The Fifth Annual Midwest Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium (MSEPS)
was held February 10-1 1, 1995, at the University of Western Ontario, London,
Ontario. Approximately 60 participants representing 10 universities in the midwestern United States and Canada participated in the 2-day event. MSEPS provides students with the experience of presenting completed research and research
in progress to peers and mentors in the field. The conference offered many
interesting presentations from the exercise and sport psychology areas. Issues
addressed included group cohesion, social physique anxiety, mental imagery,
anxiety, injury, expert coaching, exercise adherence, and self-handicapping. The
quality of the student presentations was excellent. The support of professionals
and students attending was greatly appreciated. The feedback and interaction
surrounding the conference made for a valuable professional experience for all
student presenters. Overall, the conference was informative and interesting. As
expected, the weather was cold and snowy, but the beautiful campus and friendly
environment warmed things up. Participants are looking forward to next year's
symposium to be hosted by Bowling Green State University.

Regional Student Sport Psychology Conference
The first Southwest Regional Student Sport Psychology Conference was held
April 7-8,1995, at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona. Nearly 70 students
and professionals from five states and 13 schools attended. The conference was
organized by AAASP Student Regional Representatives Thad Leffingwell and
Tara Jaye Forest. Some objectives of the conference were to provide sport
psychology students in the Southwest region an opportunity to share research
and internship findings and ideas, to gain presentation experience at the regional
level, and to socialize with other students and prominent professionals in the
region.
The conference program included invited lectures by five leading professionals and student presentations of research, research proposals, and internship
experiences. The conference was an enjoyable and educational experience for
all who attended as well as a great opportunity for the students at the host
university to learn how to put on a conference. We encourage other student
representatives to consider hosting similar conferences. If anyone would like a
copy of the promotional materials and program, please contact Ms. Tara Jaye
Forest, Exercise and Sport Sciences Department, University of Arizona, Tucson,
