Nascido em 1886, o Alexandre Herculano 41 é um edifício
residencial característico de finais do século XIX, edificado
no quadro da expansão urbana de Lisboa ocorrida na
passagem do século XIX para o século XX. Com cinco pisos,
está enquadrado num conjunto urbano constituído por
seis prédios de habitação. Inclui já as enormes alterações
estruturais e os inovadores processos de construção
introduzidos na época, destacando-se, por exemplo, a
alteração da gaiola do período pombalino.
A reabilitação deste edifício consistiu na recuperação de
elementos característicos originais, tais com os desenhos
das carpintarias, as cimalhas e os ornamentos dos tetos.
Na fachada principal, preservou-se a composição regular e
ritmada, onde se destaca o jogo de varandas, ora individual,
ora abrangendo vários vãos com bacias em cantaria
suportadas por mísulas trabalhadas e guardas em ferro
fundido de desenho elaborado.
Born in 1886, Alexandre Herculano 41 is a majestic residential
building typical of the late 19th century development, built
during Lisbon’s urban expansion at the turn of the century.
This five-floor building is nestled amongst a block of six
residential buildings. It boasts the significant structural
changes and innovative building techniques that were
introduced at the time, such as the alterations to the
Pombaline cage design.
The rehabilitation of this building will preserve its main
noble characteristics restoring traditional features such as
carpentry designs, cornices and artistic ceiling ornaments.
The main facade’s orderly and rhythmic pattern will be kept,
highlighted in its balconies, some individual, some running
along several openings, with stonework platforms supported
by decorative corbels and elaborately-designed cast iron
railings.

esquina da Rua Alexandre Herculano com a Rua Rodrigo da

The Alexandre Herculano 41 rehabilitation project, crafted
by Frederico Valsassina architecture atelier, includes the
preservation of the original turn-of-the-century facade, as
well as a range of decorative and structural elements. The
building design favours the interiors both communal and
private with modern finishes and high-spec fixtures, to offer
high-quality spaces that are both functional and comfortable.
