De forma provisória, enquanto é aguardada a
implementação da Convenção Internacional para a
Diversidade Biológica,
mas reconhecendo e
aplicando os novos moldes internacionais de
acesso aos recursos fitogenéticos estabelecidos na
referida convenção, e aguardando o resultado final
das negociações para a revisão do compromisso
internacional da FAO sobre os recursos
fitogenéticos, fornecem-se sementes dos referidos
taxa sob as seguintes condições:
- Que sejam utilizadas para o bem público em
investigação, ensaios, propagação, educação ou
no desenvolvimento das colecções dos Jardins
Botânicos.
- Se o correspondente tencionar comercializar o
material genético transferido, os seus produtos
ou a investigação derivada do uso do mesmo,
deverá pedir autorização por escrito ao Jardim
Botânico da Madeira Eng.º Rui Vieira. Esta
comercialização poderá ser formalizada com
prévio consentimento e de acordo com os
critérios do Jardim Botânico da Madeira Eng.º
Rui Vieira, consistindo em ceder uma parte dos
benefícios líquidos ao país onde foram colhidas
as sementes.
- Que não seja transferido o material genético, os
seus produtos ou a investigação derivada destes a
uma terceira parte para a sua comercialização,
sem a permissão prévia e por escrito do Jardim
Botânico da Madeira Eng.º Rui Vieira.
- Em qualquer publicação resultante do uso dos
materiais transferidos deverá reconhecer-se a sua
procedência com menção explícita ao Jardim
Botânico da Madeira Eng.º Rui Vieira.
- A ordem de pedido deverá ser assinada sob estas
condições.
As the development of the convention on Biological
Diversity is awaited, in recognising and applying the
new international framework for access to
phytogenetic resources provided for therein, and in
expectation of the final discussions on the revision of
the FAO international commitment on phytogenetic
resources, seeds of the above mentioned taxa are
supplied under the following provisional conditions:
- That may be used for the public benefit in
research, trials, propagation, education or the
development of collections of botanic gardens.
- That if the recipient tries to commercialise the
supplied genetic material, its products or the
research derived from said material, written
permission must be obtained from Jardim
Botânico da Madeira Eng. º Rui Vieira. This
commercialization may be formalised with the
prior consent and agreement of the Jardim
Botânico da Madeira Eng. º Rui Vieira, in
agreeing to contribute a part of the net benefits to
the country from which the seeds were collected.
- That no transfer for commercialization of a third
of the genetic material, its products or the
research derived from said material shall occur
without the prior written authority of the Jardim
Botânico da Madeira Eng. º Rui Vieira.
- That in any publication resulting from the use of
the supplied material acknowledgment of its
source must be given with explicit reference
being made to the Jardim Botânico da Madeira
Eng. º Rui Vieira.

The Madeira Botanical Garden is a
governmental institution, which belongs to
the Regional Forestry Service (Direcção
Regional de Florestas) of the Environment
and Natural Resources Department
(Secretaria Regional do Ambiente e dos
Recursos Naturais) of the Madeiran
Regional Government.
Purposes: Research and conservation of
Madeira and Selvagens archipelago’s plant
genetic
resources;
cultivation
and
propagation of rare and endangered species;
support the implementation of new gardens
and their management; develop and
implement
educational
environmental
projects.
Facilities: The Madeira Botanical Gardens
are situated in Quinta do Bom Sucesso,
which dates from the last century. The
garden holds the following facilities: seed
bank; in vitro culture laboratory and
molecular biology; green-house; nurseries;
meteorological station; snack bar; exotic bird
garden; herbarium and natural history
museum; open air auditorium. The garden
holds the following plant collections:
arboretum; indigenous and macaronesian
endemics; succulents; medicinal; tropical
and temperate crops.
Seed exchange: The implementation of the
Madeira Botanical Gardens Seed Bank, in
1994, has enabled an increment in the seed
exchange program that is maintained with
analogous institutions throughout the world.
The “Seed List” offers 69 taxa of wild or
cultivated origin. The data concerning the
place and date of seed collection are
available and this information is sent
appended to seed packs.

O Jardim Botânico da Madeira é uma
Direcção de Serviços da Direcção Regional de
Florestas, da Secretaria Regional do Ambiente
e Recursos Naturais, do Governo Regional da
Madeira.
Objectivos: Investigar e conservar os
recursos genéticos vegetais dos arquipélagos
da Madeira e Selvagens; propagar plantas
raras e ameaçadas de extinção; apoiar a
criação e manutenção de jardins; desenvolver
actividades de sensibilização ambiental.
Instalações: O Jardim Botânico da Madeira
situa-se na Quinta do Bom Sucesso, a qual
data do final do século XIX, e possui as
seguintes instalações: laboratório de cultura in
vitro e biologia molecular; banco de
sementes; herbário e museu de história
natural; anfiteatro; bar-esplanada, estufas e
viveiros e Loiro Parque. Nos jardins existem
várias colecções de plantas: arboreto;
indígenas da Madeira e da Macaronésia;
suculentas; agro-industriais, aromáticas e
medicinais; palmeiras.
Intercâmbio de Sementes: A criação do
Banco de Sementes, em 1994, permitiu um
incremento do intercâmbio de sementes com
instituições afins nacionais e estrangeiras. No
presente Index, disponibilizam-se 69 taxa
colhidos na natureza ou em áreas ajardinadas.
A informação sobre a localidade e data de
colheita de cada táxone está disponível e será
anexada aos pacotes de sementes de cada
táxone solicitado.
