Editorial
Dear Confrades,
We have arrived at the end of 2006 and, as usual, are pleased to report on our Confraria's activities this year.
First of all, with the enthronement of the President of the Portuguese Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, an
event that greatly honoured our Confraria, we attained a total of 41 Heads of Government and of State
ranked Cancelários.
Of the several events the Confraria was invited to participate in during the year, the most noteworthy was our
participation in the 1st Grand Chapter of the Confradia Del Viño de la Ribera del Duero, in Penafiel, Spain.
We take this opportunity to thank all the Confrades who admirably represented the Confraria do Vinho do
Porto on this solemn occasion.
The Annual Enthronement Ceremony took place with the usual brilliance at the Bolsa Palace, when the
Chancellery enthroned the following personalities with the rank of Infanção: Aníbal Soares, National
President of the Confrèrie de la Chaine des Rôtisseurs; Artur Santos Silva, founder of the BPI, the first
private bank in Portugal since the 25th of April 1974; João Vallera, Portuguese Ambassador in Germany;
and Luís Braga da Cruz, Minister of the Economy of the XIVth Institutional Government and current
Consultant to the President of the Executive Board of EDP.
The Rabelo Boat Race again graced the River Douro with a great deal of colour and enjoyment.
Cálem's rabelo boat Quinta da Foz was the winner of the 2006 Regatta.
Once again, we wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who actively work with the Chancellery and
to appeal for more and more confrades to become involved. The oath that each of us swears upon
enthronement applies to all of us. Let us repeat it together.
“For Port Wine, for the Confraria, for the Confrades!”
