SwedishAmerican Health System and UW Health are pleased to provide bariatric surgery consultations for the Rockford
area at the Belvidere Clinic. Dr. Guilherme Campos will see patients for surgical consultations and post-surgical followup visits. In Madison and Rockford, Dr. Campos will discuss options for weight loss surgery with patients, including
laparoscopic gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y), laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic gastric banding and revisional
procedures. Additional assessment visits and pre-surgery education are conducted by the UW Health Medical and Surgical
Weight Management program in Madison, WI . All surgeries are performed at UW Hospital and Clinics in Madison.
Medical and Surgical Weight Management Services
Dr. Campos is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a
member of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, as well as the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric
Surgery. He specializes in gastrointestinal surgery and is an expert in the field of minimally invasive (MIS) and bariatric
(weight loss) surgery. Dr. Campos has performed nearly 2,000 minimally invasive esophageal and bariatric surgeries.
He has published 60 peer-reviewed papers, 14 book chapters and has more than 150 presentations in national
and international meetings in the field.
His research interests are focused on the development of new minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques for both
esophageal diseases and severe obesity and evaluation of outcomes using established MIS and endoscopic treatments.
In addition, he is leading studies to determine detailed mechanisms by which bariatric surgery improves obesity-associated
diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus.
