in 2011, installed capacity of Brazilian wind
surpassed 1 GW.

• Tramandaí (Rio Grande do Sul) was the 50th
project to come online in Brazil – in 2011.
• Projects contracted through the 2009 and
2010 auctions, when complete, will bring total
installed capacity to over 5 GW according to
Brazilian Wind Energy Association, Abeeólica.

Brazil's electricity generation capacity

• The Brazilian auction system has pitched
wind against fossil fuel (natural gas) – and has
brought prices down to ‘grid parity’
• Wind is a core component of Brazil’s future

to contribute to economic development
(especially in the North East).
