Colin Metters, maestro Inglês, professor & pedagogo de Direção de Orquestra graduou‐
se no Royal College of Music de londres. Estudando, entre outros, com George Hurst
e Illya Musin (Catedrático e grande pedagogo Russo, S. Petersburgo).
O professor Colin Metters foi o fundador do Curso de Direção de Orquestra da Royal
Academy of Music de Londres em 1983, sendo principal professor e diretor do
departamento por mais de 30 anos até se reformar em 2013. Continua a ser professor
emérito da Royal Academy nos Cursos de Pós‐graduação em Direção de Orquestra.
A sua extraordinária experiência e reputação é reconhecida a nível Mundial. Dirigiu já
todas as orquestras Inglesas e figura como maestro convidado em inúmeras orquestras
por todo o Mundo, EUA, China, Ásia, Europa Central & Leste.
Desde a sua estreia como maestro que tem desenvolvido uma intensa atividade musical
de reconhecimento e classe Mundial. Estreou variadas obras e é detentor de várias
gravações para a Rádio & Televisão na Inglaterra, Alemanha, Espanha. Desde 1997
que Metters foi convidado a visitar o Vietnam para dirigir a Orquestra de Hanoi e Ho
Chi Minh. Foi posteriormente indigitado Maestro Convidado Principal da Orquestra
Nacional do Vietnam. Em reconhecimento pelo seu trabalho com esta orquestra foi
agraciado pelo Governo do Vietnam com a Ordem de Mérito pelos seus serviços em
prol da cultura, a primeira vez que tal ordem foi entregue a um cidadão Britânico.
Como professor de direção tem dado masterclasses ao mais alto nível em países como
na Alemanha, Rússia, Polónia, Suíça, Finlândia, Austrália, China, Venezuela, Vietnam,
Croácia e EUA. É constantemente convidado como júri internacional nas mais
prestigiadas competições de direção de orquestra, como por exemplo a Competição
Prokofiev em S. Petersburgo. É considerado um “maestro de maestros” e foi já indicado
como uma das personagens mais influentes na História da Música Ocidental, do final do
séc. XX. Desde 2015 que colabora com a Atlantic Coast Orchestra International
Conducting Academy como professor convidado de direção de orquestra. Em 2015 foi
também membro do júri da Atlantic Coast International Conducting Competition em
Portugal.

Colin Metters - conductor
Colin Metters is an English conductor, orchestral trainer and conducting pedagogue. He
is Honorated and Professor Emeritus of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in
London where he founded the Conductors' Course in 1983. Colin Metters was Director
of Conducting Studies at the Royal Academy of Music from 1983 to 2013. In September
2013, he retired as Head of Studies after serving in the post for 30 years. He continues
to teach at the Academy as a highly respected professor of conducting.
His wide experience affords him an enviable reputation as professional conductor,
orchestral trainer and conducting instructor. He has worked with leading symphony
orchestras in the UK, and guest-conducted extensively abroad. Colin has an international
reputation as a leading pedagogue, and has given masterclasses in Germany, Poland,
Finland, Australia, Venezuela, Vietnam, China and the USA.
Colin Metters was appointed Music Director of Ballet Rambert when he finished his
studies at The Royal College of Music. Subsequently he was appointed conductor with
Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet and conducted for Sadlers Wells on tours in the UK and
worldwide and conducted Gala concerts at Covent Garden. He has conducted for many
of the world's leading dance companies, most recently for New York City Ballet at The
Lincoln Centre.
Metters has conducted many of the major symphony orchestras in the United Kingdom
and abroad in Poland, Spain, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Venezuela, United States,
Hong Kong, Netherlands, France, Vietnam, Greece and New Zealand. He has conducted
the first performances of pieces by composers Jonathan Harvey, John Lambert, Matthew
Taylor, Augusta Read Thomas, Leonard Salzedo, Ewen Bennett, Tony Biggin, Adam
Gorb, Nicola Lefanu and Robin Holloway. He has recorded and broadcast for radio and
television UK, Germany, Spain and Vietnam. He has been Music Director of the East
Sussex Youth Orchestra since its foundation in 1979.
In 1997 Metters was invited to visit Vietnam to conduct orchestras in Hanoi and Ho Chi
Minh City. He was subsequently appointed Principal Guest Conductor and Music Advisor
to the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, directing a five-year programme of
development.

In recognition of his work with the VNSO he has been honoured by the Vietnamese
Government with their equivalent of the Order of Merit for his services to Vietnamese
Cultural Development, the first time such an award has been made to a British citizen.
In November 2013 he conducted concerts with the Vietnam National Symphony
Orchestra in Hanoi to celebrate 30 years of the work of the British Council in Vietnam.
He has given master classes in Germany, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, Finland,
Australia, China, Venezuela, Vietnam and the USA. He has worked extensively with
Dirigenten Forum in Germany directing master classes and serving many times as a jury
member. In 2008 he represented the UK on the jury for the 5th Prokofiev International
Conducting Competition in St Petersburg. Since 2015 Colin Metters collaborates with the
Atlantic Coast International Conducting Academy as guest conducting teacher. He was
also member of the jury for the 2015 Atlantic Coast International Conducting Competition
in Portugal.
