Industrial Organization Academic Year: 2014/2015 Trimester | Semester: Third Trimester Instructor(s): Helder Vasconcelos __________________________________________________________________________________ Course Description: This course aims at providing students with basic knowledge of the main issues in the theory of industrial organization, and to acquaint them with the most widespread models used in this field. The lectures will try to combine analytical rigor with intuitions and also with the discussion of some examples from real world situations. __________________________________________________________________________________ Course Content: 1. Dynamic models of price competition and tacit collusion: • Applications • Modelling collusion: advanced topics 2. Product differentiation: • Horizontal product differentiation • Vertical product differentiation 3. Entry and exit: • Sunk costs and barriers to entry • Strategic substitutes and complements 4. He obtained his PhD from the European University Institute, in 2002.
