Vom romantischen Wasserschloss ist es nur ein Sprung zum
Naturschutzgebiet am Hallwilersee. Verbinden Sie Geschichte(n),
Kultur und Natur zu einem spannenden Erlebnis!
Das aargauische Kleinadelsgeschlecht von Hallwyl hat sich in seiner
über achthundertjährigen Geschichte vielfältig hervorgetan: auf den
eidgenössischen Schlachtfeldern, an den europäischen ­Höfen, in der
Wissenschaft, in der Politik, im Handel und in der Finanzwelt. Erkunden Sie auf einem Rundgang durch die Schlossräume mittelalterliche
und neuzeitliche Lebenswelten in elf Themen. Über den Audioführer
erzählen Ihnen ausgewählte Familienmitglieder ihre Lebensgeschichte
gleich selber. Zu Wort kommen aber auch die einfachen Leute, die
Bauern und Untertanen der Herrschaft Hallwyl.

It is only a short hop from the romantic moated castle to
the nature reserve on Lake Hallwil. Combine history, culture

Travelling through time and space
with the von Hallwyl family
Throughout its eight hundred-year history, the von Hallwyl dynasty, as
part of the Argovian squirearchy, distinguished itself in a variety of
ways: on confederate battlefields, at European courts, in science and
politics, in trade and in the world of finance. On your tour of the castle
premises you will discover medieval
and post-medieval areas of life divided into 11 themes. By means of an
audio guide, selected family members
will tell you the stories of their lives.
However, the ordinary people,
the farmers and subjects of the
Lords of Hallwyl also have a
voice.

Vorlande, the estate of the Habsburgs
expanded the tower to create a represen­
tative castle complex on two islands.
1434 –1504 Hans
führt 1476 die Vorhut der Eidgenossen bei Murten siegreich gegen die Burgunder unter
Karl dem Kühnen; geht als Held von Murten in die Geschichte ein; Wiederaufbau Kornhaus
und Neubau des Vorderen Schlosses.
Led advance confederate troops to victory against the Burgundians under Charles the
Bold in 1476; made history as the hero of Murten; rebuilding the granary and newly
constructing the front castle.

Studierter Theologe; als Gesandter und
Unterhändler im Dienst der Stadt Bern.
Academic theologian; served as an envoy
and negotiator for the City of Berne.
1535 –1598 Burkhard III.
sammelt medizinische Rezepte; stellt im Hallweilschen
Arzneybuch mehr als 2500 Rezepte zusammen; Umbau der
Burg mit mehreren An- und Umbauten.
Collected medicinal recipes and compiled the Hallweilsches
Arzneybuch (Hallwil Book of Medicine) with more than
2500 recipes; carrying out construction work on the castle
consisting of several extensions and alterations.
1555 –1604 Johann Georg
wird 1601 vom Domkapitel Konstanz zum
Bischof gewählt; Bau Schlossscheune.

in 1601; constructing the castle barn.
1758 –1836 Franziska Romana, geb. von Hallwyl
1758 –1836 Franziska Romana, née von Hallwyl
aufgewachsen in Wien; heiratet den Cousin Abraham
Johannes; nach dessen Tod 50 Jahre Schlossherrin.
Grew up in Vienna; married cousin Abraham Johannes;
remained mistress of the castle for 50 years after her
husband’s death.
1844 –1930 Wilhelmina, geb. Kempe
1844 –1930 Wilhelmina, née Kempe
schwedische Ehefrau von Walter von Hallwyl (1839 –1921), passionierte Sammlerin; das
Schloss wird archäologisch untersucht. Rückbau sämtlicher Gebäude auf den Zustand
vor 1862; Gründung einer Familienstiftung.
Swedish wife of Walter von Hallwyl (1839 –1921); avid collector; undertook to have the
castle examined archaeologically. Restored all the buildings to their pre 1862 state;
set up a family foundation.
1962 Museum
Schloss Hallwyl wird öffenlich zugänglich
und 1993 dem Kanton Aargau geschenkt;
grosse Sanierung von 1997–2005.
Hallwyl Castle was opened to the public
in 1962 and donated to Canton Argovia
in 1993; extensive renovation works
from 1997 to 2005.
