It has a high availability within Bavaria but also within the nearby Alp-regions, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. With over 200,000 employees and more than 30 billion Euro of revenue the forestry and timber industry is an important branch of the Bavarian economy. As a raw material wood is very much in demand, especially due to its versatile use as an energy source, as a base material for the chemical industry and also as a building and basic material, which represents the widest area of its application. Wood is most frequently used for interior finishing and residential construction as well as for state-of-the-art bridges and impressive large-scale projects. A bold stress ribbon bridge in Gera, a technically brilliant airport terminal in Paris or entire city architectures in Norway are impressive examples of wood design and functionality.
