In his early years he was introduced to art by his grandfather who acquired a prominent painting collection, and by his mother who herself was an artist. 1903 Completed studies at high school for humanities in Linz. 1903 - 1908 Studied law in Munich, Vienna, and Innsbruck, including stays in Paris (Louvre, Academie de la Grande Chaumi?re). After studying law he received further training as a painter. This included visits to academies in Stuttgart and Dresden, which were interrupted by a draft into the military during World War I. 1918 Co-founder of the art association "The Ring" in Linz. Acquaintance with Matthias May and Margarete Pausinger. 1919 - 1921 He lived once again in Dresden, where Expressionism had gained popularity. 1922 He founded the artists' league MARCH, which cultivated an array of up-and-coming talent and rapidly won a distinguished place in Upper Austrian art life. He took frequent trips all over Europe, and ascended numerous mountains for the first time. In 1934 he went on an expedition in the kilikischen Taurus. Due to the early death of his younger brother, management of the paternal business was transferred in 1934. In his later years, Hofmann occupied himself mainly with painting and travel. In 1972 he died following an accident. Numerous exhibitions both domestically and abroad. Works by Egon Hofmann can be found in the Albertina in Vienna, the Upper Austrian State Museum, the New Gallery in Linz, and in royal copper engraved cabinets in Dresden, as well as in private collections. In addition to oil paintings, the artist also created pastel drawings and graphics (dry point process, wood carvings). www.galerielehner.at www.youtube.com/galerielehner Im Höllental / oil on board / 52,5 x 57 cm / Saas Fee / oil on canvas / 54 x 62 cm / www.galerielehner.at www.youtube.com/galerielehner Magnolienzweig / oil on canvas / 31 x 43,5 cm / Candy / oil on canvas / 40 x 52 cm / 1965 www.galerielehner.at www.youtube.com/galerielehner Zermatt / oil on canvas / 58,5 x 81,5 cm / Neuschnee im Herbst / oil on canvas / 74 x 87,8 cm / www.galerielehner.at www.youtube.com/galerielehner Lalibela / oil on board / 40 x 53,1 cm / Sommergewitter / watercolour / 21 x 31 cm / www.galerielehner.at www.youtube.com/galerielehner Gebirgslandschaft / water colour / 33 x 40 cm / Formuzza / water colour / 43 x 53 cm / www.galerielehner.at www.youtube.com/galerielehner © All text, images and graphics on www.galerielehner.at are subject to the copyright of Gallery Lehner.
