Amin Abdullah is currently serving his second term as the Rector of Sunan Kalijaga Islamic
State University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This was the first and “mother” of all the Islamic
State Universities/Institutes (UIN/IAIN/STAIN), and is now one of the leading Islamic
universities in Indonesia, with about 15,000 students.
Dr. Abdullah is well known as an Islamic philosopher who distinguishes normative Islam from
historical Islam and advocates a new path in Islamic philosophy of knowledge, one that is open
to dialogue and integration with many different sources of knowledge. Internationally
recognized for his role in promoting a modern, pluralistic and tolerant understanding of Islam,
Dr. Abdullah helped lead the world's second-largest Muslim organization, the Muhammadiyah,
from 2000-2005, when he served as Vice Chairman of its governing board.
Born in the regency of Pati, Central Java in 1953, Dr. Abdullah received his Baccalaureate
degree from Pesantren Gontor Ponorogo; his Ph.D. in Islamic Philosophy from the Middle East
Technical University in Ankara, Turkey; and has conducted post-doctoral study at McGill
University in Toronto, Canada. He is the author of numerous books, including Religious
Education in a Multi-Cultural and Multi-Religious Era; Between al-Ghazali and Kant: Islamic
Ethical Philosophy; The Dynamism of Cultural Islam; and Islamic Studies in Higher Education. He
is also the author of dozens of articles, and frequently speaks at international seminars in
Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
According to Dr. Abdullah, Indonesia's network of State Islamic Institutes and Universities have
long been at the forefront of issues such as interfaith dialogue and improving overall relations
between Islam and the West (“We must explain to the Saudis that they misunderstand the
West”). Dr. Abdullah is currently engaged in the process of modernizing his institution's
curriculum, and expanding its relationships with other leading universities worldwide, while
maintaining its links with the past. Sunan Kalijaga University itself is named after the Muslim
saint who ensured the triumph of a mystical and tolerant Islam in 16th century Java, and
thereby helped to preserve freedom of conscience for all Javanese.

Harry Harun Behr, born in Koblenz in1962, is Professor of Islamic Religious Education at the
University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he heads the Interdisciplinary Center for Islamic
Religious Education and, through an undergraduate teacher training program, trains Islamic RE
teachers in preparation for service at publicly maintained schools. Professor Behr’s research
and teaching focuses on issues of the religious self-image and world view of young Muslims as
a competence area of the teaching-learning process in RE lessons at school, with special
consideration of the comprehension processes when exploring Quran texts. Apart from that,
Harry Harun Behr, in cooperation with the Academy for Continuous Teacher Training and
Personnel Management in Dillingen, Bavaria, trains Muslim staff at schools to become Islamic
RE teachers. Prof. Behr publishes the journal “Zeitschrift für die Religionslehre des Islam
(ZRLI)” and co-publishes the textbook series “Saphir – Religionsbuch für junge Musliminnen
und Muslime”.

Dr. Rainer Brunner, born in 1964, was appointed as a Directeur de Recherche at the Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Paris, in 2005. Before that he had held positions
as a research associate at the Orientalisches Seminar of Freiburg University (1998-2004),
Directeur d'Études invité at the der École Pratique des Hautes Études, Section Sciences
Religieuses at the Sorbonne (2002), Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies of the Hebrew
University Jerusalem (2002/03), and was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in
Princeton (2004/05). His main research interests are modern Muslim intellectual history,
especially the history and theology of the Shia, the relationship between Sunni and Shia, and
Islam in Europe.

Dr. Kirill Dmitriev, born 1976 in Sankt Petersburg, has been a Dilthey Fellow of the Pro
Geisteswissenschaften funding initiative and, concurrently, Research Fellow at the Seminar for
Semitic and Arabic Studies of the Free University Berlin since 2007. Since 2010 he is a
member of the “Young Academy” at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and
Humanities and the Germany Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Dr. Dmitriev’s research
activities are focused on classical Arabic language and literature, Christian Arabic literature,
and the history of the cultures and religions of late antiquity. He is a co-editor of the Handbook
of Christians in the Islamic World (Brill Academic Publishers).

Dr. Rajaa Naji was, from 1987-1991, Divisionary inspector in the Financial Department. From
1991, she is Professor in the University Law School, Rabat, Morocco. From 1999, she is the
President of the Doctoral unity of Formation and Research on Health Law, also the President of
“pool of Research on Health Law”. She is Expert and counselor, in several international and
regional organizations.
Prizes and honors: She is the first woman to deliver (2003) a religious lecture in the presence
of the king (His Majesty Mohamed VI, the Moroccan King) as part of the Ramadan lecture
series broadcast on TV (the first experience in the Islamic World).
She is also one of the women who was brought in to train the imams and murchidates.
She participates in particular formation ateliers.

Professor Dr. Friedrich Wilhelm Graf has held the Chair of Systematic Theology and Ethics at
LMU Munich since 1999. His previous academic positions include professorships at Augsburg
University (1988 to 1992 and 1996 to 1999) and the University of the Federal Armed Forces
Hamburg (1992 to 1996), and a fellowship at the Max-Weber-Kolleg of the University of Erfurt
(1998 to 1999). In 1999 he became the first theologian to be awarded the Leibniz Prize of the
German Research Foundation (DFG). Friedrich Wilhelm Graf holds a visiting professorship at
the Seigakuin University in Tokyo (since 2000), is a full member of the Bavarian Academy of
Sciences and Humanities (since 2001), Research Fellow of the University of Pretoria (since
2001), and was a fellow of Historisches Kolleg München (2003/2004). In 2005, he had to
decline an appointment as Permanent Fellow to the Institute for Advanced Study
(Wissenschaftskolleg) in Berlin, before carrying out research there, as a Fellow, from 2006 to
2007. Presently, he holds a research professorship in his capacity as a member of the Center
for Advanced Studies in Munich.
As a member of the WR working group “Theologies and Religious Studies at German
Universities”, Professor Dr. Friedrich Wilhelm Graf was involved in developing the
“Recommendations on the Advancement of Theologies and Sciences Concerned with Religions at
German Universities”.

Professor Carole Hillenbrand was educated at the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford and
Edinburgh. From 2000-2008 she teached as a Professor of Islamic History at the University of
Edinburgh (Scotland, UK). From 1997-2002 and from 2006-2008 she was Head of the
Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh. Furthermore
Carole Hillenbrand was Visiting Professor at the Dartmouth College in New Hampshire (USA) in
1994 and 2005 and at the University of Groningen (Netherlands) in 2002.
She was also Vice-President of the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies, (2003-2009) and
still is Islamic Advisory Editor at the Edinburgh University Press (since 1983) as well as Editor
of the series entitled “Studies in Persian and Turkish History”, published by Routledge (since
1999).
Carole Hillenbrand has published several books and articles on aspects of Islam. She was
awarded with several prizes, amongst others with the The King Faisal International Prize in
Islamic Studies in 2005.

Lamya Kaddor, a daughter of Syrian immigrants, was born in Ahlen, Westphalia, in 1978. She
completed her Master (Magister) degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies, Educational Sciences
and Comparatistics at the University of Münster in 2003. Currently Ms Kaddor is preparing her
doctoral thesis.
Also at the University of Münster, she trained teachers for Islamic religious education from
2004 to 2008, carrying out the duties of a deputy professorship in Islamic Religious Education
Studies between July 2007 and March 2008. Since the academic year 2003/2004, she has
been working as a teacher in Dinslaken, participating in the school trial “Islamic Studies in
German”. Apart from that, from 2008 to 2009, she chaired the “Working Group for Teachers of
Islamic Studies” (AG für die Lehrer für Islamkunde) for the District Administration in
Düsseldorf.
Ms Kaddor is one of the Muslim voices to be heard in the first-ever, dedicated Muslim space in
German public service TV, the ZDF program “Forum am Freitag” (www.forumamfreitag.zdf.de).
Her most popular publications include “Koran für Kinder und Erwachsene“ (with Rabeya Müller)
and the first German-language classroom textbook for Islamic religious education, “Saphir”
(co-published with Rabeya Müller and Harry Harun Behr), which won the Best European
Schoolbook Award at the Frankfurter Book Fair in October 2009.
Her new book, “Muslimisch-weiblich-deutsch! Mein Leben für einen zeitgemäßen Islam“ was
published earlier this year.

Engin Karahan, born in Istanbul in 1979 and grown up in the Palatinate, has been active in the
Islamic Community (Islamische Gemeinschaft) Milli Görüs for 16 years. Currently at the office
of the General Secretary of the Community, he is in charge of affairs of religious constitutional
law.
Since 2006, he has been responsible for the same portfolio as a legal consultant at the Islamic
Council for the Federal Republic of Germany (Islamrat für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland) .
Since mid 2009, he is one of the two representatives of the Islamic Council at the Coordination
Council of Muslims (Koordinationsrat der Muslime, KRM) in Germany.
His main work concerns the institutionalization of Islam in Germany and issues of integration
of Islam in legal and social terms.

The Islamic theologian Halima Krausen, born in Aachen in 1949, has served as imam of the
Congregation of German-Speaking Muslims (Gemeinde deutschsprachiger Muslime) in Hamburg
since 1996 and chaired the Initiative for Islamic Studies (Initiative für Islamische Studien e.V.),
which offers private training and education in Islamic Theology, since 1993. In her latter capacity
she holds study groups in Germany and the UK. She is involved in various projects of
interreligious dialog. In the past, she also contributed to translations of Islamic source texts,
including an annotated German translation of the Quran. Her academic specialties are Quran
exegesis and the theology of the religions.

Jörg Lau, born in Aachen in 1964, wrote his first pieces of journalism for the taz, FAZ and
Merkur newspapers while still a student of literature and philosophy at Ruhr-Universität
Bochum.
In 1992 he was awarded the ERNST ROBERT CURTIUS Essay Prize.
From 1993 he worked as an editor for literature and cultural affairs at the “taz”, and from
1997 first as a writer, then as an editor at the ZEIT office in Berlin.
For a number of years, Jörg Lau has been focusing on issues of migration, integration, Islam
in Europe and Islamism.
Jörg Lau is the foreign policy editor at the ZEIT office in Berlin since 2007.
In November 2007 he was awarded the Media Prize of the Protestant-Lutheran Church in
Bavaria, in a competition under the motto LUST AUF FAMILIE (“longing for family”).
Jörg Lau is married to the journalist Mariam Lau (DIE ZEIT), with whom he has three
daughters.

Jamal Malik, born in 1956, has been Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Erfurt since
1999. He read Islamic Studies and Political Science at the University of Bonn (until 1982) and
earned his doctorate in the history of South Asia at the South Asia Institute Heidelberg (1989).
Further postdoctoral work and habilitation in Islamic Studies at the University of Bamberg (1994)
was followed by a professorship in Religious Studies at the University of Derby (UK, 1998–99).
His fields of work include the cultural and social history of Muslim South Asia in the modern era
and the contemporary historical expressions of Islam in Europe.

Ömer Özsoy, born1963 in Kayseri (Turkey), is a professor of Islamic Theology and, since 2009,
director of the Institute for the Study of Islamic Culture and Religion at Frankfurt. Before his
appointment as Foundation Professor of Islamic Religion at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe
University in 2006, he was Professor of Quran exegesis within the Faculty of Divinity at Ankara
University. He also edited islamiyat, the theological journal. In 2005, Prof. Özsoy worked as a
Humboldt Research Fellow at Göttingen University, before spending the summer semester of
2006 as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Salzburg. His fields of
activity include text exegesis of the Quran and the historical contextual interpretation of the
Quranic discourse, which he explores under hermeneutical and discourse-analytical aspects.

Erol Pürlü was born in the town of Sivas in Central Anatolia in 1969. In 1977 he and his family
joined his father, who had been a “guest worker” since 1969, in Germany. So the eight years
old boy found a new home in Gersthofen near Augsburg.
From 1986 to 1987, while at high school, the devout Muslim received theological instruction
through weekend seminars held by the Association of Islamic Cultural Centers (Verband der
Islamischen Kulturzentren, VIKZ) in Cologne. After graduation, he read Islamic and Semitic
Studies and Educational Sciences at the University of Cologne. In 1998 he was appointed to the
research staff of the Islamische Akademie Villa Hahnenburg (ISLAH), an approved institution of
adult education, in whose establishment he played an important role. At the same time, the
father of two children became engaged in Christian-Islamic dialog. He has been a member of
the Christian-Islamic Forum and the Islamforum Deutschland since the year 2000.
Pürlü served as full-time General Secretary of the VIKZ from 2001 to 2005, with special
responsibility for public relations and dialog. While in that post, he developed training courses
on the subject of Islam for the German Federal Police (formerly Federal Border Guard), which
he still holds at regular intervals.
Since 2005, Pürlü is the Dialog Commissioner and Head of Public Relations of the VIKZ. In this
capacity he is also a member of the German Islam Conference (Deutsche Islamkonferenz, DIK)
and appears in the ZDF TV show “Forum am Freitag”.
Erol Pürlü, now a German national, is fluent in German, Turkish, English, French and Arabic. He
sees himself as a mediator between the religions and cultures. A citizen of Cologne since
1986, he feels at home in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the metropolis of the Rhineland.

Thomas Rachel, born 1962 in Düren, is the Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Federal
Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) since November 2005. He has been a Member of
the German Bundestag (MdB) without interruption since 1994. Prior to his ministerial
appointment, Thomas Rachel served as spokesman for education and research policy of the
CDU/CSU parliamentary party in the Bundestag and as spokesman for the CDU/CSU
contingent in the parliamentary inquiry commission on the ethics and laws of modern medicine
(“Enquete-Kommission Ethik und Recht der modernen Medizin“). He is a member of the
executive board of the CDU in North Rhine-Westphalia, federal chair of the Evangelical Working
Group (EAK) of the CDU/CSU and, since 2003, member of the Federal Executive Board of the
CDU. As an active Protestant Christian, Thomas Rachel also serves as a synod member of the
Evangelical Church in the Rhineland. His work as a parliamentarian has always been centered
on education and research politics and guided by the Christian view of humanity.

Lutz Raphael, born in Essen in1955, Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at the
University of Trier, has been a member of the Scientific Commission of the Council for Science
and Humanities (WR) since 2007. His fields of research include the history of modern historical
scholarship and the history of ideas and societies in Western Europe since the nineteenth
century.
As the head of the WR working group “Theologies and Religious Studies at German
Universities”, Professor Dr. Lutz Raphael was involved in drawing up the “Recommendations on
the Advancement of Theologies and Sciences Concerned with Religions at German
Universities”.

Prof. Dr. Mathias Rohe, M.A., born 1959 in Stuttgart, read Law and Islamic Studies at Tübingen
and Damascus. He is a professor ordinarius at the Law faculty of the University of ErlangenNürnberg and the founding director of the Erlangen Center for Islam and the Law in Europe.
From 2006 to 2009, he was a member of the working group on constitutional issues at the
German Islam Conference (Deutsche islamkonferenz, DIK), and since 2001 president/board
member of the Society for Arabic and Islamic Law (GAIR, Gesellschaft für Arabisches und
Islamisches Recht). His research work is mainly focused on legal issues concerning Islam in
Europe and the development of a modern Islamic normativity. Mathias Rohe is married with
two children.

Professor Dr. Annette Schavan has been the German Federal Minister for Education and
Research and a Member of the Bundestag (MdB) since 2005. Previously, she had served for
ten years as the Minister for Education, Cultural Affairs, Youth and Sport in the state of BadenWürttemberg. She has been a deputy chair of the CDU national party since 1998. Her
academic qualifications are in Catholic Theology, Philosophy and Educational Sciences. In
2008 she was appointed Honorary Professor of Catholic Theology at Freie Universität Berlin.

Stefan Schreiner, a member of the WR working group “Theologies and Religious Studies at
German Universities”, has been Professor of Religious Studies (with emphasis on Islam) and
Jewish Studies at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and director of the Institutum
Judaicum there since 1992 . Before that, he had held a Martin Buber-foundation visiting
professorship at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt/Main and was a visiting
lecturer at the Centre for the Study of Judaism and Jewish/Christian Relations in Birmingham
(UK). His fields of activity include research on the history and culture of Jews and Karaites in
Central and Eastern Europe and in the Islamic world, and on the relations between Jews,
Christians and Muslims, especially as reflected by their polemic-apologetic literature.
In his capacity as a member of the WR working group “Theologies and Religious Studies at
German Universities”, Professor Dr. Stefan Schreiner was involved in developing the
“Recommendations on the Advancement of Theologies and Sciences Concerned with Religions
at German Universities”.

Reinhard Schulze, born in 1953, has been a full professor of Islamic Studies and Modern and
Contemporary Oriental Philology at Berne since 1995. Before that, he held professorships in
Islamic Studies at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (1987 to 1992) and the University of Bamberg
(1992 to 1995). He served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Berne
from 2003 to 2007. Schulze’s main research interests are the history of Islamic traditions,
especially since the early Modern period, and the history of Islamic culture and knowledge.
Another research focus is the social and cultural history of the modern and contemporary
Islamic world and today’s Islamic political cultures.

Dr Siddiqui obtained his PhD in Theology from the University of Birmingham and an Honorary
PhD for Inter-Faith Relations and Education from the University of Gloucestershire where he is
also a Visiting Professor. He is a Reader in Religious Pluralism and Inter-Faith Relations at
Markfield Institute of Higher Education (MIHE), where he teaches ‘Islam and Pluralism’, and
‘Inter-Faith Relations’. He is the Course Director of ‘Certificate in Muslim Chaplaincy’
programme. Dr Siddiqui is a Visiting Fellow in the School of Historical Studies, University of
Leicester; Member of the Advisory Board of Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre for the Study of
Islam in the Contemporary World and a Consultant of ‘Muslim Chaplains Research Project’ at
Cardiff University as well as a member of the Advisory Board on ‘Training of Imams and
syllabus of Islamic Studies in Islamic Seminaries in Britain’ by the Department of Communities
and Local Government (DCLG). He was the Director of the MIHE from 2001 to 2008 and
published extensively on Inter-Faith dialogue and Christian-Muslim Relations. He is also the
author of a government report Islam at Universities in England: Meeting the Needs and Investing
in the Future.

Prof. em. Dr. Hans-Georg Soeffner studied Sociology, Philosophy, German Studies, Art History,
and Communication Studies at universities in Tübingen, Cologne and Bonn. After his promotion
at the University of Bonn (1972) and habilitation at Essen (1976), he held professorships at
Essen, Hagen, Potsdam and, finally, Constance (Chair of General Sociology), as well as visiting
professorships at places including Berkeley, Boston, Santiago de Chile, Vienna, Zurich and
Lucerne. He is Chairman of the German Sociological Association (Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Soziologie, DGS) since 2007, Senior Fellow and Executive Board Member at the Institute for
Advanced Study in the Humanities (Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut, KWI) in Essen and Senior
Fellow with the DFG Excellence Cluster "Religion and Politics in the Cultures of the Premodern
and Modern Eras". In his scholarly work, his interests range from sociological theory and the
sociology of knowledge, culture, media and religion to the methodology knowledge-sociological
hermeneutics.

Peter Strohschneider, born in Stuttgart in 1955, is Professor of German Medieval Studies at
the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich. He was appointed as Chairman of the Council for
Sciences and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat, WR) in 2006, after one year of membership in the
Council. For ten years prior to the call to Munich in 2002, he had been a professor ordinarius
at the Technical University of Dresden, where he contributed greatly to the establishment of
Humanities at that institution.
In his research, Prof. Strohschneider is mainly concerned with the theory of the premodern
text and of the courtly literature of the High and Late Middle Ages, which he seeks to access
from media and culture-anthropological, communication-pragmatic and institutionalizationhistorical aspects.

Professor Sarah Stroumsa, the Alice and Jack Ormut Professor of Arabic Studies in the Faculty
of Humanities at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is a graduate (cum laude) of the Hebrew
University, where she majored in Arabic Language and Literature and Middle Eastern Studies.
She also received her Ph.D. (with distinction) from the University in 1984.
A Professor in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature and the Department of
Jewish Thought, Professor Stroumsa was Vice-Rector of HU from 2003-2006, and since 2008
she serves as Rector of the University.
Professor Stroumsa’s area of academic focus includes the history of philosophical and
theological thought in Arabic in the early Islamic Middle Ages, Medieval Judaeo-Arabic
literature, and Muslims and Jews in Islamic Spain.

Abdullah Takim, born 1972 in Istanbul, has been a Foundation Visiting Professor for Islamic
Religion at the Institute for the Study of Islamic Culture and Religion at the Johann Wolfgang
Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt/Main, since 2007. His research is dedicated to classic and
modern Quran exegesis (tafsîr), Islamic mysticism (tasawwuf), philosophy (falsafa) and ethics
(akhlâq). Other interests include the reform movements within Islam, and medical ethics/
bioethics in Islamic contexts. In a collaborative project with Dr. Dr. Ilhan Ilkilic, Prof. Takim has
created the website http://www.kultur-gesundheit.de, covering issues of medical ethics and
bioethics in the context of Islamic religion. Having been active in the dialogue between
Christians and Muslims for twenty years, Prof. Takim is among the founders of the “Theological
Forum Christianity-Islam”, which is held every March at the Diocesan Academy of RottenburgStuttgart. He is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Eugen Biser Foundation in
Munich.

Bülent Uçar, born in Oberhausen in 1977, is Professor for Islamic Religious Education Studies
and Director of the Centre for intercultural Islamic Studies at the University of Osnabrück.
After graduation in Law and Islamic Studies at the universities of Bochum and Bonn (19962002), he taught Islamic Studies in Bonn and Duisburg-Marxloh (2002-2005). At the end of
that period, he gained a doctorate in Islamic Studies from Bonn, for his thesis on the subject of
“law as a means to reform of religion and society”. Following engagements at the “State
Institute for Education and Further Training” in Soest and the Ministry of Education in
Düsseldorf (2005-2007), he was appointed to Osnabrück in 2007. His postdoctoral thesis on
the topic of modern Quran exegesis was accepted, and qualification to teach as a professor of
Islamic Studies awarded by the University of Erlangen.

Commercial Law at the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena, was a research associate at the
Federal Constitutional Court, and a research consultant at the Max Planck Institute for
Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. The main focus of his work is
human rights protection and the law of international organizations.

Prof. Dr. Wolfram Weiße teaches Religious Education and International Theology at the
University of Hamburg. He is the director of the Interdisciplinary Center for World Religions in
Dialog, from which emerged the Academy of World Religions in June 2010. The Academy aims
to develop academic resources for research and teaching in the field of world religions. Over
the past years, this goal was pursued through large-scale research projects focusing on
dialogue and education, lecture series and scientific symposia on the subject of “Theology in
Plurality”, as well as by creating visiting professorships for Jewish and Islamic Theology and
organizing events about the teaching of Buddhism. The Academy of World Religions is going to
be strengthened, for instance, by establishing a professorial post for “Islam and Education”
accompanied by continual visiting professorships, with the aim to develop sustainable and
forward-looking concepts for theologies of the world religions and issues of dialog between
people of various religions, cultures and world views.

and Arabic Studies at the University of Bamberg in 1985. While in that post, she served as First
Spokesperson of the DFG Graduate School “Anthropologische Grundlagen und Entwicklungen
im Christentum und Islam“ (Anthropological Foundations and Developments in Christianity and
Islam) and was a founding member of the Center for Interreligious Studies at Bamberg. Emerita
since 2009, she now lectures at universities in Fribourg (Switzerland) and Frankfurt/Main and
at the Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule (Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology)
Sankt Georgen, also in Frankfurt. Her main research interests are Islamic theology of the
modern and present eras – especially regarding Quran hermeneutical exegesis, theological
anthropology and human rights issues – and modern Arabic literature.
