Denn eine solche ist nicht an der Restauration eines einmal gefundenen Sounds, am ewigen Widerekäuen von ein, zwei Ideen interessiert, sondern an permanentem Fortschritt in ihrer Kunst" – Musikexpress Album reviews and interviews Album stream/review on Dazed Digital: http://www.dazeddigital.com/music/article/21885/1/stream-gazelle-twins-darklyexperimental-album-un flesh Review on Spex: http://www.spex.de/2014/09/23/gazelle-twin-der-ursprung-allen-horros/ Interview on The Quietus: http://thequietus.com/articles/16329-gazelle-twin-interviewun flesh and review http://thequietus.com/articles/16526-gazelle-twin-un flesh-review-2 Review NME: http://www.nme.com/reviews/gazelle-twin/15642 Track premiere The Wire: http://www.thewire.co.uk/audio/tracks/listen_gazelle-twin-track Quotes "woozily ethereal industrial-pop" - Dazed & Confused "sinister and salacious" - XLR8R " violence and sexual ecstasy in all but a whisper." Q "darkly brooding and intensely beautiful" - Gorilla vs Bear Gazelle Twin is the creation of producer, composer and artist, Elizabeth Bernholz. The critically acclaimed debut, The Entire City (2011, Anti- Ghost Moon Ray) and following Mammal EP (2013, Sugarcane) are about to be succeeded by a full length industrial-pop offering UNFLESH (2014). In March 2014, she premiered the first creep-out new single and video 'Belly of the Beast' on Dazed & Confused and throughout may continued to dripfeed her unnerving, Cronenberg-inspired craft in a further single release on 19 May, plus videos and a string of UK/EU live dates after the album release in september 2014 (Last Gang Records / Anti-Ghost Moon Ray) From the start, Elizabeth Bernholz has utilised the anonymity provided by costumes, masquerade-like, to assist in her performance. “The original reason,” she acknowledges, “is that I’m quite shy and, with my face on show, I’d be inclined to be meek and apologetic.” Nevertheless, Walling does not hide herself in masks and headdresses merely to present an ‘alter ego’ or ‘dark side of the self’ or anything so banal. Rather than an exercise in vulgar emotional exhibitionism, Gazelle Twin constitutes, says Bernholz, “a retreat inwards”, crossing boundaries of identity and gender, even genus. Unflesh is Elizabeth Bernholz’s second album as Gazelle Twin, a dark and depraved journey into the remote cells of her subconscious. “The idea of 'unflesh' is like a shedding of skin,” she says of the record. “It’s a tearing out of your body down to your skeleton and breaking free. I was also interested in the London riots: young people are always demonised, very misunderstood, but they're also at the peak of this intense consumerist culture. You just think, what might happen if we ply generation on generation with excess desire, unattainable desires, and just hammer it? It's survival mode, but it's survival for nothing. Survival for the most menial reward. You're not running from a lion, you're just trying to get out of the supermarket after buying some dinner.” Gazelle Twin is a refreshingly discreet, secretive animal in a world where new female starlets no sooner fall off the conveyor belt than clamour to reveal everything about their tedious private lives, even their physiques, in song and interview, photograph and film. “I hate the way,” Bernholz explains, “that most female artists face a minimum requirement to appear sexually available... not that sex is wrong, but there’s so much more to a person isn’t there?” Artist links www.gazelletwin.com https://www.facebook.com/gazelletwin https://twitter.com/gazelletwin http://vimeo.com/gazelletwin https://soundcloud.com/gazelletwin http://www.antighostmoonray.com
