sich diese wichtigste Veranstaltung am Rande der Übung
ELITE 2006. Eingeladen hatte
Generalleutnant Walter Jertz.

14 generals of the participating
nations came to the Zollernalb
barracks in Meßstetten. The
“Distinguished Visitors Day“ is
the most important side event
of the exercise ELITE 2006.
The Commander of the German Air Force Command Lieutenant General Walter Jertz
hosted the event. The generals were accompanied by eight
personal staff officers. After a
briefing, the high-ranking military representatives visited the
STATIC DISPLAY and were
informed about the simulation
network VIRTEL.
By helicopter the military representatives were flown to
Laupheim and from there they
were taken by bus to the Hohenkammer Castle, south of
Ingolstadt.

Luftwaffenführungskommandos der deutschen Luftwaffe.
Nach einem Briefing waren
die hohen europäischen Militärs unter anderem beim
STATIC DISPLAY. Mit dem
Hubschrauber haben sich die
militärischen Vertreter der Nationen schließlich auf den Weg
nach Laupheim und von dort
mit dem Bus zum Schloß Hohenkammer südlich von Ingolstadt gemacht.

Heuberg (sm). – Die polnischen ELITE-Teilnehmer haben in einer Erklärung auf den
guten Willen hingewiesen, den
die deutschen Kameraden bei
der Zusammenarbeit gezeigt
hätten. „Mit Verstand und offenen Herzen“, so Polens Major
Krzysztof Smolucma hätten die
Deutschen in der größten Hektik ihre Hilfe angeboten. Gleich-
wohl seien die polnischen Soldaten sehr erfreut darüber,
auch ihre Hilfe bei der Lösung
technischer Probleme eingebracht zu haben. Adressiert an
Übungsleiter Oberst i.G. Axel
Wilcke schrieb LtCol Andrzej
Zielinski, die Polen verabschiedeten sich von ihm mit Respekt
und Anerkennung.

good will the German comrades had shown in the cooperation. According to Polands
Major Krzysztof Smolucma the
Germans had offered their help
in the biggest rush “with reason and open hearts”. The Po-
lish soldiers were also glad to
had helped with the solution of

Flugabwehrraketengruppe 22”
gestern Nachmittag zu uns gebracht. Der Dank gilt zunächst
den Kameraden der Küche.
Von einer täglichen Augenweide, die das Wurst-, Käseund Obstangebot biete, ist die
Rede. Die freundliche Frage,
„ob es denn noch ein Süpplein sein dürfe”, werde der
Staffelfeldwebel, Frank Träger,
„schmerzlich vermissen!”.
Weiter dankt Stabsfeldwebel
Träger dem „freundlichen Sanitätspersonal“. Daheim vergessene Medikamente seien
umgehend beschafft worden.

the kitchen. They are praising

Logistiker: Auch mal selbst Initiative ergreifen
Logistician: take the initiative
Meßstetten (sm). – Ulrich
Thierauf, Oberstleutnant, ist ein
ruhiger, ein besonnener Mann.
Diese Eigenschaften kann er
gut gebrauchen. Dort wo Heizung, Kühlung, Verpflegung
oder Schlafplätze gebraucht
werden – bei der Versorgung
steckt immer der Logistik-Bereich
dahinter, geführt von
Ulrich Thierauf. Sein Büro im
Gebäude 185 der Albkaserne
in Stetten ist kahl. Es fehlen
Besucherstühle.
Es scheint so zu sein, dass hier
nur einer in Ruhe arbeiten soll:
nicht mehr, nicht weniger. Um
die Bedeutung der Logistik zu
betonen, formuliert der Oberstleutnant aus Fürstenfeldbruck
drei Schlagzeilen. Erstens: „No
fuel – no flight!”. Dann: “No food
– no fight!”. Schließlich: “No
bed – no night!“. Zur Zeit seien
allein um und auf dem Heuberg
1 400 Soldaten stationiert. 300
Mann von ihnen gehören zu
den Unterstützern der Truppe
wie zum Beispiel Hauptfeldwebel Johannes Müller (siehe
Porträt in dieser Ausgabe),
der „Container-Papst“. Ohne
den logistischen Support gehe
hier gar nichts, stellt Thierauf
nüchtern fest. Den IT-Bereich
will er dabei nicht berücksichtigen, weil dort andere Aufgaben
zu lösen sind. Letztlich treffen,
sagt der Oberstleutnant, unterschiedliche Erwartungen der
Nationen auf die hohen eigenen Ansprüche der Logistik.
Allerdings verfügen die Männer um Thierauf nicht über das
Personal, um Sonderwünsche
zu erfüllen. „Das ist dann ein
Problem, wenn vermögende
Staaten mit besonders hohen
Ansprüchen kommen!“. Die
Standards ließen sich durchaus dann verändern, wenn
Betroffene selbst Initiative entwickeln und sich nicht nur auf
den durchaus guten Support
der Logistiker verlassen. Die
Zusammenarbeit sei allein
schon dann leichter, wenn die
Nationen und nationalen Arbeitsbereiche frühzeitig zur
Vorbesichtigung kommen, um
Bedürfnisse zu erfassen, zu
formulieren und gemeinsam
mit den Logistikern oder selber
umzusetzen.

Und es gelte: wenn zum 2. Tag
der Übung nichts geschehen ist,
dann wird sich daran „mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit“ nichts
mehr ändern lassen. Planung
ist das wesentliche Standbein
der Logistiker, die allein für
ELITE 2006 seit November fulltime an Plänen gearbeitet haben – zum Beispiel dem, wann
der Heuberg wieder „besenrein“
ist, und zwar am 24. Mai 2006.
An die Herausforderungen, die
er hier erlebt hat, wird sich Ulrich Thierauf sicher noch lange
erinnern. Dies ist seine letzte
Übung. Zum Jahresende tritt
Oberstleutnant Thierauf in den
Ruhestand.
Meßstetten (sm). – Lieutenant Colonel Ulrich Thierauf is
a calm and prudent man. He
can use these qualities. Where
heating, cooling, messing or
accommodation is needed the support is provided by the
logistics unit led by Ulrich Thierauf. His office in building 185
in the Alb barracks in Stetten is
bare. No visitor chairs. It seems
that here work is done quietly,
nothing more. To emphasize
the importance of logistics,
the Lieutenant Colonel from
Fürstenfeldbruck puts a headline into words. First, “No fuel
– no flight!”, second “No food
– no fight!” and finally “No bed
– no night!“.
At present, all soldiers are stationed at or on the Heuberg. 300
men of them are logistic supporters like, for instance, Master Sergeant Johannes Müller,
the “container pope” (see portrayal in this edition). Without
logistic support nothing works,
Thierauf says. The IT support
is not taken into account here,
because there other tasks are
fulfilled. Finally, the high expectations of other nations, says
the Lieutenant Colonel, meet
with the own high expectations.
On the other hand, Thierauf
and his men just have not got
the personnel to fulfil special
wishes. “This turns out to be
a problem if other wealthy nations come with especially high
expectations!” The standards
can be adapted a little bit if the
person concerned takes the iniative and not only relies on the
definitely good support by the
logisticians. The cooperation
is already easier if the nations
and the responsible functional
areas pay a visit early enough
to list, formulate and put special needs to practice together
with the logisticians or on their
own initiative. And the rule is: if
nothing has changed until the
second day of the exercise,
then nothing can probably be
changed anymore. Planning is
the backbone for logisticians
who have worked fulltime on
the plans for ELITE 2006 since
November – for instance this
one – at what point of time has
the Heuberg to be clean again
– exactly on 24 May 2006. Ulrich Thierauf will think back for
a long time on the challenges
he has lived through here. This
was his last exercise. At the end
of the year, Lieutenant Colonel
Ulrich Thierauf will retire.

Übungsleiter:
Leistungswillen ungebrochen
Meßstetten (stm). - Zufrieden
mit dem Verlauf von ELITE
2006 zeigte sich zum Ende der
Übung Oberst i.G. Axel Wilcke.
Bereits zum dritten Mal war er
verantwortlich für die Durchführung dieser Hochwertübung
des Elektronischen Kampfes.
„In einem komplexen Szenario
wollten wir dem Operateur Verhaltenssicherheit geben mit der
Zielrichtung, dass er Vertrauen
in seine eigene Leistungsfähigkeit und Vertrauen in das, was
sein Waffensystem kann, gewinnt“, erklärte der Übungsleiter einen wesentlichen Hauptaspekt der Übung.
Mit einer gesteigerten Leistungsfähigkeit sollten die
übenden Truppenteile den
Standortübungsplatz Heuberg
verlassen. Bei der Auswertung
der Übungsergebnisse habe
man einen deutlichen Schritt
nach vorne getan. Gerade im
Bereich der bodengestützten
Waffensysteme konnten wich-
tige Faktoren verzugslos erfasst werden. Besonders erfreut
zeigte sich Oberst i.G. Wilcke
von dem Leistungswillen aller
an der Übung Beteiligten. „Von
Anfang an gingen alle hochmotiviert an ihre Aufgabe heran.
Es herrschte ein guter Geist
auf dem Heuberg“. Dass eine
solche Übung im Rahmen
des elektronischen Kampfes
notwendig und unverzichtbar ist, steht für den Generalstabsoffizier außer Frage. Die Übung wird
von allen beteiligten
Nationen gerne angenommen. „Das
internationale und
harmonische Miteinander, das gegenseitige Kennenlernen
und
das gegenseitige
Vertrauen waren die
Garanten für den Erfolg von ELITE 2006“,
so der 50-jährige
Oberst.
Schaut dann mal ins Internet!
Meßstetten (stm). – „Ja, denn
zu Hause ist es am Schönsten“,
kam die Antwort wie aus der
Pistole geschossen. Sergeant
William Embrechts freut sich
auf das Übungsende und die
Heimfahrt am Freitag. „Von
morgens bis abends haben wir
mit unserem Waffensystem,
der STINGER, geübt. Auch
beim Nachtflug waren wir im
Einsatz. Hier gab es ideale
Übungsvoraussetzungen“, versicherte der holländische Berufssoldat. Doch es blieb auch
Zeit für seine Hobbys. Als passionierter Formel 1-Fan verfolgte er selbstverständlich am
Sonntag das Rennen in Barcelona vor dem Bildschirm. Seine
Sympathien gehörten dabei
Michael Schumacher. „Bereits
seit den Zeiten von Benetton
bin ich Schumi-Fan“, verrät
der 42-jährige. Seine zweite
Leidenschaft gehört dem Fotografieren. In seiner Heimat
wird er oft gebeten, Feste und
Feierlichkeiten
fotografisch
festzuhalten. Seine „bildhaften“
Eindrücke von ELITE 2006
wird der Sergeant ab der nächsten Woche auf seiner eigenen

Great motivation
Meßstetten (stm). – Colonel
(GS) Axel Wilcke is contented
with the course of the exercise
at the end of ELITE 2006. Colonel Wilcke has been responsible for the execution of this
high-value electronic warfare
exercise for the third time. “In
a complex scenario we want
to give the operator confidence in his own performance as well as in the
capabilities of his weapon
system”, explains the exercise coordinator a
main goal of the exercise. The practicing units are supposed to leave the
garrison training
area with an increased performance
capability. A decisive step forward
has been taken in
the evaluation of the
exercise results. Especially in
the field of ground-based weapon systems, it was possible
to record major factors without
delay. Colonel (GS) Wilcke was
particularly pleased with the
motivation of the participants
in this exercise. “From the beginning, everybody started out
with great motivation. There
has been a good spirit on the
Heuberg.”
That such an exercise within
the context of electronic warfare is necessary and essential is out of the question for the
senior officer. The exercise has
always been well-received by
the participating nations. “The
international and harmonious
cooperation, as well as getting
to know and trusting each other
have guaranteed the success
of ELITE 2006”, said the 50year-old Colonel.

answer came like a shot.
Sergeant William Embrechts is
looking forward to the end of the
exercise and to the trip home
on Friday. “We have practiced
all day long with our STINGER
even during the night flight operation. Here, the training conditions have been ideal”, says
the Dutch career soldier assuringly. Still, there was some
time left for his hobbies. As a
passionate Formula-1 fan, he
naturally saw the race in Barcelona on TV last Sunday. He
has sympathized with Michael
Schumacher. “Since his times
with Benetton I have been a
Schumacher fan”, says the 42year-old. Hi second passion is
photography.
At home, he is often asked to
take photos of parties and festivities. The sergeant will publish
his impressions of ELITE 2006
on his own website from next
week on.

Der Tag der Generäle
Meßstetten (os). - Die Einweisung fand zunächst im Unteroffizierheim der ZollernalbKaserne statt. Oberst i.G. Axel
Wilcke gab den anwesenden
Befehlshabern einen Einblick in
Geschichte, Ziele und Planung
von ELITE. Besonders interessant waren seine Ausführungen
zum Auswertungssystem bei
ELITE und über Virtual Elite
(VIRTEL). Oberstleutnant Georg Wolters führte das Operations Briefing von ELITE 2006
durch. Anschließend diskutierten die Stabsoffiziere und Generäle beim Mittagessen über
das Gehörte. Bei der statischen
Waffenschau kamen sich die
unterschiedlichen
Nationen
schnell näher. Brigadegeneral
Costel Tataru aus Rumänien
und Brigadegeneral Antonius
Atmatzakis aus Griechenland
besuchten gemeinsam die ausgestellten Gefechtsfahrzeuge.
Eine Gruppe türkischer Generäle und Stabsoffiziere ließ sich
in das Waffensystem Patriot
einweisen. Nur Generalmajor
Fernando Lens Astray suchte
vergeblich: er hätte gerne das
deutsche Flugabwehrsystem
OZELOT gesehen. Die praktische Einführung in VIRTEL
und in das Auswertungssystem
rundete den Visitors Day ab.
Sehr zufrieden zeigten sich die
Befehlshaber über den Verlauf
der diesjährigen Übung. „Ich
bin sehr stolz über das internationale Interesse an unserer
Übung“, stellte Generalleutnant
Walter Jertz fest.

insight in the history, objectives, and planning of ELITE.
Particularly interesting was his
report on the ELITE evaluation
system and Virtual Elite (VIRTEL). Lieutenant Colonel Ge-
org Wolters conducted the operations briefing of ELITE 2006.
Thereafter, the senior officers
and the generals discussed the
contents of the briefing during
lunch. During the STATIC DISPLAY, it did not take long for the
various nations to get closer to
each other. Brigadier General
Costel Tataru from Romania
and Brigadier General Antonius
Atmatzakis from Greece visited
the displayed combat vehicles
together. A group of Turkish generals and senior officers received a briefing on the PATRIOT
weapon system. Only Major
General Fernando Lens Astray
could not find what he was looking for: he would have liked to
see the German air defense system OZELOT. A practical intro-
duction to VIRTEL and the evaluation system completed the
Visitors Day. The commanders
were very contented with the
course of this year’s exercise.
“I am very proud of the international interest in our exercise”,
stated Lieutenant General Walter Jertz.

Die nächsten ELITE Übungen
werden auf jeden Fall wieder
mit schwedischen GBADS
stattfinden, so Brigadegeneral
Anders Silwer. Mit dem Kampfflugzeug GRIPEN wolle man
sich jedoch erst beteiligen,
sobald dieses einer erneuten
Kampfwertsteigerung unterzogen wurde.
Als Gastgeber und Befehlshaber von ELITE 2006 empfindet
Generalleutnant Walter Jertz
Stolz und Freude darüber,
dass so viele Nationen an der
Übung teilnehmen. Die große
Komplexität des Szenarios und
die Teilnahme verschiedener
hochentwickelter
Systeme
auch aus Nicht-NATO-Staaten
verleiht der Übung laut des
italienischen
Generalmajors
Luciano Massetti einen hohen Stellenwert. Er bedauerte,
dass Italien aufgrund knapper
Ressourcen dieses Jahr nur
mit einem Beobachtungsteam
teilnehmen konnte. Der Kommandant der österreichischen
Luftstreitkräfte, Generalmajor
Erich Wolf, stellte in Aussicht,
dass nach der diesjährigen
Pause bei ELITE 2007 das
Bundesheer wieder operative
Aufgaben unter anderem mit
BLACKHAWK Hubschraubern
übernehmen werde. Brigadegeneral Antonius Atmatzakis
verwies auf das gute Training
für die Piloten der griechischen
F-16, die durch die fordernden
Anflüge Situationen vorfinden,
die sich durch eine Nation alleine nicht simulieren lassen.

ELITE exercises, said Brigadier General Anders Silwer. The
combat aircraft GRIPEN will
participate as soon as a combat efficiency improvement has
been implemented. As host and
commander of ELITE 2006, Lieutenant General Walter Jertz,
is especially proud and delighted that so many nations are

This exercise is not only preparation for potential threats
but also a confidence-building
measure. According to Major
General Luciano Massetti, the
high complexity of the scenarios
and the deployment of different
highly developed systems also
from non-NATO members attributes a high value to the exercise. He regrets that this year
Italy can just participate with

„Wir haben hier viel Spaß und

Es mag einen entspannten Eindruck machen, wie die Kameraden da in der Sonne auf der

“We have a lot of fun here and
we learn a lot of new things”,
adds Airman First Class Nazirov. It may seem relaxed when
you see the comrades standing
on the ruins in the sunshine,
but still, it is hard work. “I have

again targeted an aircraft.

Heuberg (os). – Hoch oben
auf dem Fronberge steht Rainer Hüttner mit einer SA-6.
Der 49-jährige kommt von der
Wehrtechnischen Dienststelle
in Greding. „Ich gehöre eigentlich nicht zur Übungstruppe“,
stellt Rainer Hüttner klar. Seine
Aufgabe sei es, Daten zu erfassen. „Klar baue ich manchmal
ein Bedrohungsszenario für
die Piloten auf“, stellt er richtig.
Aber wichtiger sei die Datenerfassung. Die SA-6 funktioniere
automatisch. Sie bekomme
ihre Daten vom Feuerleitradar
einige hundert Meter entfernt.
Dann richten sich die Raketen
automatisch auf das Ziel aus.
Er messe mit Hilfe einer Kamera, ob der Vorhalt der Raketen
korrekt sei. Diese Daten trage
er dann in seinen Computer
ein. Seit gestern ist für Rainer
Hüttner die Übung ELITE 2006
auch schon wieder vorbei. „Da
wurde ich von einem Kollegen
abgelöst“, freut er sich. Denn
das Dröhnen des Generators,
der Lärm der SA-6 und das
Donnern der Flugzeugtriebwerke seien auf die Dauer ganz
schön anstrengend.

His job is to collect data. “Of
course, I sometimes create a
threat scenario for the pilots”,
he adds. A much more important task is the data collection.
The SA-6 works automatically.
The data are transmitted by the
fire control radar some hundred
meters away. Then the missiles
track the target automatically.
With the help of the camera
he measures if the lead of the
missiles is correct. These data
are typed into the computer.
Yesterday the exercise ELITE
2006 was already over for Rainer Hüttner. “A colleague took
over”, he says happily, because
the roaring of the generator, the
sound of the SA-6 and the thundering of the aircraft engines
can be extremely exhausting in
the long run.

nächsten zwei Tage wollen wir
nutzen, um uns auch andere
Waffensysteme anzuschauen“,
sagt Oberfeldwebel Jan Heide.
Der
Flugabwehrradarfeldwebel wartet zusammen mit
seinen Kameraden vor dem
FAST
(Flugabwehrschnittstelle Tiefflugbereich) auf die
versprochene Abholung. „Seit
Übungsbeginn wechseln wir
ständig unseren Einsatzort.
Aber bisher hatten wir nicht die
Möglichkeit, hautnah andere
Waffensysteme in Augenschein
nehmen zu können“, erklärt der
28-jährige Truppführer. In den
vergangenen Tagen lag der
Schwerpunkt mehr im Abgreifen des Luftlagebildes und Einspielen in den Aufklärungsverbund. „Leider haben wir auch
am Fußballturnier nicht teilnehmen können. Das wäre sicherlich eine gute Gelegenheit gewesen, Kontakte zu knüpfen“,
so der ledige Zeitsoldat.
Private 1st Class (Obergefreiter) Rok Perne ist schon
zum zweiten mal bei ELITE dabei.

Roßkopf (sh). - „Es könnte
öfter solche sportlichen Wettkämpfe geben wie das Fußballturnier am Sonntag“, beginnt Private 1st Class (Obergefreiter) Rok Perne das Gespräch. Er ist der Starspieler
der slowenischen Mannschaft.
„Meine Kameraden und ich würden uns sehr freuen, wenn es
mehr solcher Veranstaltungen
gäbe. Gerne würden wir die
Soldaten der anderen Nationen
besser kennenlernen und mit
ihnen zusammen feiern“, fügt
Perne noch hinzu. Der Slowene ist schon zum zweiten Mal
bei ELITE dabei. Gerade für
Kameraden, welche in GBADs
eingesetzt sind, meint er, sei
ein wenig mehr Sport eine angenehme Abwechslung. Abgesehen von dem nicht ganz
ausreichenden internationalen
Sport- und Freizeitangebot
findet Perne die Übung ELITE
insgesamt sehr gut. „Ich lerne
hier nicht viel Neues, da ich
dieselbe Arbeit mache wie in
meiner Einheit. Aber es ist ein
gutes Training für mich”, erklärt
der slowenische Kamerad. Es
ist für Perne und seine Kameraden außerdem sehr interessant, mit den verschiedenen
Nationen zusammenzuarbeiten. Falls er im nächsten Jahr
auch wieder dabei sein sollte,
wünscht sich Perne zwinkernd
noch zum Abschluss: „Mehr
internationale Feiern sollte es
geben!”

nice to have such sports competitions like the soccer tournament on Sunday more often”,
starts Private 1st Class Rok
Perne our conversation. He
is the star of the Slovene soccer team. “My comrades and I
would really enjoy to have more
events of that kind. It would be
great if we could get to know
the soldiers of the other nations
better and have parties with
them”, adds Perne.
The Slovene is already taking
part in ELITE for the second
time. In his opinion, it would be
a welcome change to do some
sports, especially for the comrades working with GBAD systems. However, apart from the
slightly insufficient sports and
leisure time activities, Perne
likes the exercise ELITE very
much. “I am not really learning
a lot here since I have been
doing the same work as in my
unit, however, it is good training
for me”, explains the Slovene
soldier.
For Perne and his comrades it
is also quite interesting to work
together with various nations.
For next year, in case he should
come, he wishes with a wink:
“There should be more international parties!”

the start of the exercise we
have been constantly changing
our operational location, but
we have not had the possibility to take a closer look at other
weapon systems”, explains the
28-year-old squad leader. In
the last days, the main effort
was concentrated on establishing the air picture and loading
it into the composite reconnaissance system. “Unfortunately,
we could not participate in the
soccer tournament. This would
have been a great occasion to
establish contacts.”, says the
unmarried
temporary-career
volunteer.

zubereitete „French Fries” und
leckeren Wein aus Chateauneuf du Pape, dem Heimatstandort der Franzosen. Die
französischen Soldaten gaben
am Montag einen Champagner-Empfang für ihre deutschen Gastgeber und die neuen Freunde. Kleine Geschenke
wurden verteilt und es wurde
auf die erfolgreiche Übung angestoßen. Eine freundschaftliche Stimmung herrschte im
Betreuungszelt auf Schießbahn 10. Es wurden Dienstgradschlaufen
ausgetauscht
und sogar die Spießkordel von
Hauptfeldwebel
Haberäcker
wechselte den Besitzer. Lange
wurde gefeiert, getrunken und
gelacht. Commandant Manuel
Monnin sagte zum Abschluss:
„Wir haben wieder viele neue
Freunde gefunden!” Die Organisation und die Unterstützung
seien einmalig. Die Franzosen
freuen sich, im nächsten Jahr
wieder dabei zu sein. „Dann
gewinnen wir auch das Fußball Turnier”, fügt Commandant
Monnin noch zwinkernd hinzu.

and even the cord of First
Sergeant Haberäcker changed hands. They celebrated,
drank, and laughed for hours.
In the end, Major Manuel Monnin said: “We have once again
found a lot of new friends!” The
organization and the support
were tremendous.
The French are looking forward
to taking part again next year.

neue Freunde gefunden und
gut mit den Kameraden aus
anderen Ländern zusammen
gearbeitet“, sagt Captain Kayapinar. Die beiden türkischen
Kameraden hoffen, das Gelernte in der Zusammenarbeit
mit der NATO und bei Peace
Keeping-Missionen einbringen
zu können. Eine solche Übung
wie ELITE ist „immer eine gute
Möglichkeit,
internationale
Freundschaften zu schließen
und einander besser kennen
zu lernen.“

bis zum letzten Tag!“ Wer solch einen Einsatz zeigt, weiß,
was eine Übung wie ELITE
braucht: Flexibilität und Beharrlichkeit. Alle diese Eigenschaften hat Norbert Farniok.
Er ist Hauptmann und seit dem
3. April der verlängerte Arm des
Luftwaffenführungskommandos auf dem Heuberg. Farniok
hat die sogenannte ADMINZelle geleitet.
Heuberg (sh). – “We will work
until the last day of the exercise!” Who shows such a commitment knows what an exercise
like ELITE needs: flexibility and
persistence. Norbert Farniok
has got all the characteristics.
He is captain and since April
3, he has been the Air Force
Command’s right-hand man on
the Heuberg. Farniok has been
responsible for the ADMIN-cell.
Nicht immer war er zufrieden.
Aber manch gute Idee von
Norbert Farniok hat geholfen,
ELITE 2006 zu einem Erfolg zu
machen. Nach der Übung warten weitere große Aufgaben auf
den Mann. Er reist sofort weiter
nach Afghanistan, wo er für die
NATO Kampfmittelbeseitiger
trainiert und betreut. Nach Afghanistan folgen gleichartige
Einsätze im Oman und in Dubai. Farniok ist eben wie die
Feuerwehr: immer da, wo es
brennt. Er ist ein besonnener
Mann, auf den man sich verlassen kann – in jeder Lebenslage!
He was not contented at all
times, but some good ideas
from Norbert Farniok have helped to make ELITE 2006 a success. After the end of the exercise new tasks are waiting for
the man. He will be deployed to
Afghanistan where he will train
EOD personnel (explosive ordnance disposal personnel) for
the NATO. After Afghanistan
similar deployments will follow
in Oman and Dubai. Farniok is
just like the fire brigade: always
there, where it burns. He is a
calm man, you can rely upon
– in every situation.

Heuberg (sb). - Er war Ansprechpartner bei Problemen,
hatte immer einen guten Rat
parat und ein mobiles Büro.
Die Rede ist von Hauptfeldwebel Johannes „Joe“ Müller. „Ich
war der Erste, der hier ankam,
und ich bin der Letzte, der den
Truppenübungsplatz verlässt.“
Hauptfeldwebel Müller hat dafür gesorgt, dass die Container
auf dem Heuberg, in Lechfeld,
der Zollernalb-Kaserne in Meßstetten und im Lager Heuberg
bereitstehen. Unter schweren
Bedingungen wurden die Container auf dem Heuberg aufgestellt: es schneite. Mittlerweile
ist Hauptfeldwebel Müller ein
ELITE-Insider. Bereits zum dritten Mal ist er bei ELITE dabei.
Sein mobiles Büro, ein Smart,
ist sein Hauptarbeitsplatz. So
kann er überall da sein, wo
man ihn braucht. Joe Müller hat
nicht nur für Blechbüros in Kastenform gesorgt. Die Tribüne
auf Schießbahn 10, die Zelte,
das Interieur der Container und
die Nationalflaggen mit Flaggenmasten sind von ihm organisiert worden. Er selber sieht
sich als „Schnittstelle zwischen
dem Luftwaffenführungskommando mit den Logistikteilen
und den zivilen Betrieben, die
rund um ELITE unterstützen“.
Vom 3. April bis zum 24. Mai
ist Joe Müller für die Übung unterwegs. Dann kehrt er wieder
zu seinem Verband, dem Jagdgeschwader 71 „Richthofen“,
zurück. Doch nach ELITE ist
vor ELITE. Schon bald geht die
Planung für das nächste Jahr
los.

Heuberg (sb). – He was the
contact person in case of problems, had always a good piece of advice and a mobile
office. We are talking about
Master Sergeant Johannes
“Joe” Müller. “I was the first
one to arrive and I will be the
last one to leave the training
area.” Master Sergeant Müller took care of the provision
of containers on the Heuberg,
in Lechfeld, in the Zollernalb
barracks in Meßstetten and in
camp Heuberg. The containers
were put in place on the Heuberg under harsh conditions:
it was snowing. Meanwhile,
Master Sergeant Müller is an
ELITE insider. It is already his
third time at ELITE. His mobile
office, a Smart, is his primary
work place. In this way he can
be wherever he is needed. Joe
Müller did not only take care of
metal offices in box shape. The
visitor stand on range 10, the
tents, the interior of the containers and the national flags with
their flagpoles were also organized by him. He refers to himself as “Interface between the
German Air Force Command
with its logistic elements and
the private companies that provide support for ELITE”. From 3
April until 24 May, Joe Müller is
out and about for the exercise.
Afterwards he will return to his
unit, Fighter Wing 71 “Richthofen”. However, after ELITE is
before ELITE. Soon, planning
will start for next year.

Kameraden ist er für die Versorgung der vier TORNADO
GR4, die für den Zeitraum von
ELITE 2006 in Lechfeld stationiert sind, verantwortlich. Der
aus Manchester stammende
Brite ist von der guten Organisation und der Hilfsbereitschaft
unter den Nationen bei ELITE
beeindruckt. Auch das „Great
German Beer“ und die „Friendly People“ haben es ihm angetan.

Squadron from RAF Marham

Together with his comrades
he is responsible for the servicing of the four TORNADO
GR4 which are stationed for
the time of ELITE 2006 at their
host base Lechfeld. The British
soldier, who is originally from
Manchester, is impressed by
the good organization and the
helpfulness among the nations
at ELITE. He is also pleased
with the „great German beer“
and the „friendly people“.

Das war ein Übermittlungsfehler. Also waren wir ohne jede
Chance, intensiv den Inhalt
überprüfen zu können. In unserer gestrigen Ausgabe (auf
Seite 8) haben wir gerne über
das Luftraumüberwachungsradar (LÜR) berichtet. Gleich drei
unverzeihliche Fehler sind uns
unterlaufen. Zufrieden mit der
Arbeit am LÜR ist Hauptfeldwebel Bastian Nölker. Er gehört
der Flugabwehraufklärungsbatterie 100 an. Die stationäre Radaranlage in Meßstetten kann
Flugbewegungen erst ab einer
Entfernung von 16 Kilometern
erfassen. Die LÜR-Stellung
befindet sich an Schießbahn
13. – Unser Kamerad Tomaz
Naglic, der beim Zoller-HofMarathon Dritter wurde, kommt
nicht aus Tschechien, sondern
aus der Slowenien. Das muss
richtiggestellt werden!
We could not help it. We received the wrong information.
Therefore we had no chance
to find the mistake. We were
pleased to report about the air
surveillance radar (ASR = LÜR
- Luftraumüberwachungsradar)
in yesterday‘s edition (on page
8). Unfortunately we made
three unforgivable mistakes
in the same article. We apologize! Contented with his work
at the ASR is Master Sergeant
Bastian Nölker. He belongs to
Air Defense Reconnaissance
Battery 100. The stationary radar system in Meßstetten can
only acquire aircraft outside
a range of 16 kilometers. The
ASR site is located at range 13.
– Our comrade Tomaz Naglic,
who finished third in the Zoller
Hof marathon, does not come
from the Czech Republic but
from Slovenia. This must be
corrected!
