Lipp tank building system - BCI Brewchem International
Lipp tank building system Technical overview BREWCHEM INTERNATIONAL Introduction In industry, agriculture and communities, the proper storage and processing of solids and liquids places extremely demanding requirements on the containers - especially where toxic and aggressive substances are concerned. Back in 1970 Xaver Lipp first developed a unique technology to meet this requirement. Since then the construction and materials used in the patented Lipp GmbH Dual-Seam System have been developed continuously, proving time and again the value and effectiveness of the system, now with over 3,000 tanks and containers constructed globally, each new installation as precise and reliable as the last. The Lipp Dual-Seam System at a glance • High static stability • Corrosion-resistant • Long life • Completely impermeable • Substrate-flexible thanks to specific choice of materials • Automated, efficient on-site production • Low assembly and investment costs • Minimal installation space required • Low maintenance costs • TUV tested and certified 3 Technology Lipp Dual-Seam System Conventional systems are often unsuitable for the optimum, safe storage of solid or liquid substances – premature corrosion, leaks and problems with safety are the result. Flexibility is another important factor. Containers must be flexible with regard to their size and substrate and optimally adaptable to the local conditions. The award winning Lipp Dual-Seam System has proven itself - lastingly and the world over - for almost 40 years. Edge folding principle The principle of the Lipp Dual-Seam System is as follows: steel bands are folded over twice at their edges, interconnecting them so that even aggressive liquids in the container’s interior find no attackable surfaces for corrosion and maximum impermeability is achieved for the optimum storage of solid, liquid and gaseous substances. The tanks and containers are manufactured from metallic materials, which are matched to the chemical and physical properties of the respective contents which are to be stored and treated. Corrosion resistance They are characterised by outstanding quality. Due to their extreme stability, even the largest containers are resistant to horizontal pressure, meaning maximum safety is ensured. The effective means against premature corrosion: an edgeless, smooth surface on the interior. Another specific benefit: the size of the containers is steplessly variable between three and more than 40 metres in diameter. Onsite installation With the transportable assembly devices also conceived by Lipp, steel bands can be assembled into containers - on site - in the desired size and with a variable diameter, in any location. A tested and largely automated manufacturing process permits fast, flexible, efficient assembly with a minimal installation space requirement. A Lipp Dual-Seam System is believed to be the fastest, simplest way to flexibly build reliable containers and tanks. 4 Materials Verinox Steel and stainless steel are becoming increasingly expensive; however, special stainless steels are indispensable for the storage and processing or handling of corrosive liquids. Lipp has developed the duplex material, Verinox, to make optimal use of the economic advantages of the Lipp Dual-Seam System in these applications. A stainless-steel band and a hot-dip galvanised steel band are joined with a connecting band. As a result, the proportion of expensive stainless steel is reduced considerably, as are the total costs. The specification of the stainless-steel band is variable, depending on the requirements of each tank. The interior of each container or tank design is lined with stainless steel throughout, while the exterior consists of galvanised steel from top to bottom. The decisive economic advantage: the same benefits at lower costs! 5 Standard applications (The core technology, engineering and materials are adapted to match individual installations to provide the optimum solution.) Containers for water, waste water, sewage sludge In liquid container construction, the selection of a suitable material is decisive for preventing corrosion and ensuring the greatest possible impermeability and safety. Possible materials include aluminium, galvanised steel or high-alloy stainless steels. The cost-benefit ratio is especially favourable with the material combination “Verinox” developed by Lipp. Containers for bio, sewage and landfill gas A high level of functional and operational safety as well as efficiency are the most important criteria for the construction and operation of gas containers. Lipp has developed a patented system for pressureless dry gas storage, which has been used successfully for over 20 years. Container diaphragm covers The Lipp stainless-steel diaphragms, excellently suited for the covering of large-scale containers and tanks, are intelligently designed and therefore as high-quality as they are low-cost. They cover existing steel or reinforced concrete containers with a self-supporting diameter of up to 100 metres. Lipp KomBio Reactor for sewage treatment plants This digester, with an integrated gas accumulator, offers an innovative, economical solution for energy production and anaerobic stabilisation of sewage sludge. It has been used worldwide for more than ten years. LS Desulphurisation System for the biological desulphurisation of biogas and sewage gas The LS desulphurisation system from Lipp enables a high degree of desulphurisation, consequently prolonging the service life of the biogas system – and that without chemical additives or additional disposal costs. This module, which is used between a digester and a gas processing plant, uses micro-organisms and the corresponding process conditions to reduce the hydrogen sulphide contained in biogas. Refurbishing, alternative utilisation or volume expansion of existing containers Thanks to mobile assembly technology, Lipp can build cylindrical containers in a great variety of sizes on site and place them on existing steel or reinforced concrete tanks using a mobile crane. This technology enables the rapid repair of damaged containers as well as changes in utilisation and volume to be increased. 6 Anaerobic Technology LIPP KomBio Reactor Fermenters with an integrated gas accumulator LIPP KomBio Reactors: The innovative and economically outstanding solution for energy production and stabilisation of sewage sludge has been used for over ten years in many countries. This is because quick realisation, low investment costs, high operating safety and the long service life speak for themselves. The system is modular and suitable for any larger waste-water treatment plant. Benefits of anaerobic sludge stabilisation and energy production: • Production of renewable energy and the reduction of fossil carbon dioxide emissions • Low noise level • Flexibility with regard to waste composition • Compact systems all of which are fully utilised by the LIPP KomBio Reactor. 7 Waste Water Treatment Liquid containers for water, waste water, sewage sludge, etc. Made of stainless steel or galvanised steel – from 15 to in excess of 5,000 m³ The protection of bodies of water and the environment is the goal of responsible, modern waste-water treatment. The permissible pollutant concentration in the local waterway is set by the local environmental authority and must be strictly complied with. Typical applications: • Rain basins • Fire extinguishing water containers • Buffer containers • Waste-water tanks • Stackable sludge containers • Activation tanks • Percolating filters • Final sedimentation tanks • Mixing and compensation tanks • Digesters • Landfill percolating water tanks • Process containers 8 Waste Water Treatment Liquid containers for water, waste water, sewage sludge, etc. Made of stainless steel or galvanised steel – from 15 to in excess of 5,000 m³ Lipp always selects the appropriate material to be used while taking the respective conditions into account. This choice is based on the properties of the liquids and the resulting static requirements for the containers. Lipp is a specialist company according to Section 19 of the German Water Management Law and impresses with regard to impermeability, long life and professional execution of the design with well thought-out, solid finishing in every detail. 9 Diaphragm Cover Lipp stainless-steel diaphragm cover for covering large-scale steel and armoured (reinforced) concrete containers. Legislation relating to odour control, which has become increasingly strict over the past few years, has led to a need for safe covering of tanks with material that produces bad odours. This concerns areas of municipal waste-water disposal and the chemical, pharmaceutical and food processing industries. The Lipp stainless-steel diaphragm is an obvious choice for the perfect covering of existing steel or reinforced concrete tanks and its Lipp DualSeam System containers. The self-supporting, light-weight diaphragm design of stainless steel - with high mechanical strength and resistance to ageing - enables tanks with diameters of up to 100 m to be spanned. The stainless steel material is designed to withstand snow loads and high winds, while at the same time sealing the tank. The Lipp stainless-steel diaphragm cover is corrosionresistant, gas and vapour diffusion resistant and not susceptible to UV radiation or damage. The lightweight design of the diaphragm is excellently suited to covering volatile and explosive substances, and, in the case of an explosion, prevents airborne debris. Welding work at the installation site is eliminated by prefabricating the diaphragm at the plant. 10 Complete prefabrication of the membrane at the plant Gas accumulators Patented system for pressureless gas storage from 30 – 3,000 m³ for sewage, landfill or biogas. High functional and operating safety as well as investment and maintenance costs are aspects to be focused on when selecting, building and operating gas containers. For 20 years now, a system for pressureless dry gas storage, developed by Lipp, has proven itself and has met all past and present requirements. This system consists of a bubble-shaped storage balloon and a steel container produced with the Lipp Dual-Seam System, which protects the container from mechanical damage and the effects of weathering. The gas is stored without pressure in the storage balloon which is made from fabric-reinforced plastic, which is resistant to biogas. The pressure required for later consumption is generated with a gas blower in the consumer line. This system operates very safely and is virtually wear-free. Sizes between 30 and over 3,000 m³ are available, depending on the individual requirements. The content level is measured mechanically and appears on a display in the form of a measuring staff with a pointer and - as an option - the tank can be fitted with an electronic measuring device, which is connected to a graphical display. All gas containers are designed in accordance with the applicable safety regulations and have DVGW (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) approval. 11 Liquid Manure Tanks Durability based on a tank material specifically designed for livestock waste Slurry storage is an increasing problem for livestock farmers across world– restrictions on spreading especially during winter months can lead to a storage headache. This issue can been compounded by the increased rainfall and resulting ground conditions. The efficient on-site production allows for fast, inexpensive assembly of silos with a variable diameter between 3 and 30 metres, with a choice of stirring options available. The advantages at a glance: • High quality and a long service life • Excellent stability thanks to Lipp Dual-Seam System • Free choice of RAL colours • Expansion option • Short construction time • Construction without container boarding and scaffolding • Type statics • DIBT approval • Broad assortment of peripheral accessories 12 Biogas systems with modular design Modular design When opting for a biogas system, the focus should be on the manufacturer’s experience. Ultimately, it is not merely a question of economic profitability, but essentially also that of an optimal concept. Here Lipp already has over 30 years of experience and has continually developed the technology during that time. The Biogas systems from Lipp are based on a well-rounded systems concept with regard to consulting, development, production and assembly. With comprehensive know-how and the use of proven technologies, such as the Lipp Dual-Seam System, Verinox material and high-quality accessories, the highest possible level of quality is achieved with excellent efficiency. A Lipp biogas system is coordinated in line with local conditions in every regard, enabling complete systems or individual components (e.g. storage containers, digesters, gas storage systems, etc.) to be supplied. The owner also has the option of providing their own services to lower the investment costs. Thanks to the use of additional modules (e.g. an upstream pasteurisation stage or advanced processing technologies before and/or after digestion), there are virtually no limits to the diversity of digestable substrates possible. Optimised measuring and control technology enables perfect monitoring and control of the system. Lipp was awarded the RAL seal of quality for the high-quality design of its biogas plant system. Optimum operating safety Sinking and floating layers are avoided with horizontal and vertical mixing. Prior to plant construction, coordination is carried out with the future plant owner in order to define the optimum stirring technique based on the respective substrate. Operational safety is ensured through the closed reaction room, external drive of the stirring mechanism and externally mounted electrical control systems. Intelligent Design Variable dimensions and substrate-flexible stirring technology also allow the use of more problematic substrates. The wall heating system mounted on the outside of the digester wall provides for optimum fermenting conditions and a high gas yield. Fast installation – lower costs Low assembly costs are possible through the use of the Lipp Dual-Seam System technology and on-site production. The provision of the foundation slab and assistance during assembly reduce costs further. 13 Ligavator/Betavator System for utilising optimised biomass for animal feed or energy production For over two decades, the Lipp Ligavator System has proven itself in the agricultural sector in terms of the liquid preservation of wet maize and grain. This has developed into the Lipp Betavator System as a storage method for beets and other root crops and for the production of low-loss silage. Both systems are excellently suited for feeding pigs and cattle. They allow for energy-saving, environmentally-friendly, fully automated use of the feed, independent of the weather. Both biomass storage systems are meanwhile used with equal success in the area of energy production with Lipp biogas systems. The crops are mixed in the Lipp Ligamix to form a substrate and subsequently fed by pump into the Ligavator/Betavator. Removal can also be automated with a pump. With regard to the use of renewable raw materials in biogas systems, this system offers not only the advantage of being suitable for automation, but also considerably reduces the dwell time in the digester, making it very efficient and economical. All containers are equipped with the familiar advantages of the proven Lipp Dual-Seam System and the Lipp material Verinox. Other advantages include the considerable reduction in the use of process energy and consistently high quality thanks to fully automated production technology. 14 Accessories - Industrial The whole is more than the sum of its parts. The galvanized steel is the carrier material and the doubling from stainless steel is on the side of the substance. Different qualities of stainless steel can be chosen (e.g. 1.4301 (304) or 1.4571 (316i). The ideal stainless steel quality depends in the purpose of the operation. Gutachten Verinox (opinion Verinox) The used stainless steel is cold rolled and so it has a very high crystal density. Because of that the better surface quality guaranties a very high corrosion resistance against the storage materials. The outside carrier material galvanized steel is separated from the stainless steel through an endless acrylic tape and is a very good protection against influences of the weather. The tanks made of Verinox are suitable for the storage of problematic and sensitive filling media as there are: Water, waste water, sewage, sludge, feeding materials and a lot of different products of the chemical, the pharmaceutical and the plastic industries.
