ALVARO URIBE
Movimentos orgânicos Organic movements
He was born in Miami, brought up in Bogotá and moved to New York in 2005,
where he graduated in Industrial Design from the Pratt Institute, an area which
he subsequently went on to perfect in Denmark and in Germany. Alvaro Uribe is
an up-and-coming talent with work that has won awards and also been exhibited at the prestigious San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and at the Phyleticsech Museum in Germany. His professional career is closely linked to brands
such as Nachtmann, Billes Products, Umbra, Nicol, Nambe and Style Factory.
His studio, which was inaugurated just this year, adopts a new approach: to
inject energy and life into the objects from our day-to-day life, offering poetic
reflections of the modern world in which we live and searching for a continuous
relationship between materials and the manufacturing process.
The power to communicate instinctively with people through the senses has in-
‘Plum’: banco/stool.

spired Alvaro from an early age: “Our world has been reduced to flat screens and
bi-dimensional interaction; I’m interested in celebrating the three-dimensional
universe. We are sensory beings and that’s why I seek to create pieces that
influence us physically and philosophically.”
Dance offers a starting point for the creative process, suggesting a language
that encourages us to feel colours, the flexibility of the body, the richness of
sounds and is inspired by nature’s extraordinary ability to sculpt materials in an
efficient and functional manner. The ‘Plum’ stool, the ‘Copenhagen’ chair and the ‘Mantis’ table could be selected
as some of the best examples of work from his portfolio given that they reflect
his curiosity for new technology and dynamic shapes. Observing each of these
creations, the sense of apparent movement encourages us to embark on a
journey through the universe of human and animal figures and to invade a space
full of energy and weightlessness. ::
‘Monike’: mesa/table.
‘Twist’: caneta/pen.
