TEXAS BASKETBALL MAGAZINE’S CHOICE I. Plano West II. Dallas Skyline AAAAAA Manvel wins the State Championship in 2014 ! III. North Shore MANVEL (38-2) - The #3 Mavericks of coach Bryan Harris had a super year advancing all the way to the State Championship game in 2014 for the first time in the school’s history. The Red, White & Navy Blue won the Region III championship by defeating La Porte 85-22, Fort Bend Hightower 72-51, Galena Park North Shore 60-41, Houston Cpress Ranch 56-33 an d Houston Cypress Woods 58-42 to take their show to the Drum. In the State Semi-finals Manvel defeated Plano West 69-38 to advance to the title game. Manvel excited about playing in the Championship game never lead until the last quarter when the newness wore off and their play came together to get by #1 Duncanville 58-53 and win their 1st State Championship on its first try. The 14-15 Red, White & Navy Blue will build around a good core of 6 lettermen, including 2 starters for next years playoff action. DUNCANVILLE (35-1) - The #1 Pantherettes of coach Cathy Self-Morgan having won State Championship in 2012, and 2013, were looking to make it three in a row in 2014. The Red, White & Blue won their 23rd Region I Championship by beating Killeen Harker Heights 83-31, Irving MacArthur 52-29, South Grand Prairie 70-34, Arlington Bowie 70-32, and Hurst Bell 70-29 to earn another ticket to the Drum. In the State Semi-finals Duncanville took care of business by beating #14 San Antonio Wagner 80-57 to take it to the title round. In the finals Duncanville met a worthy opponent, that matched blow for blow with the Pantherettes winding up on the short end, as Manvel won 58-53 killing Duncanvilles chance at winning 3 in a row. Coach Cathy Self-Morgan loses 4 starters to graduation and will count on 1 starter and 8 lettermen to build on a return to the Drum in 2015! SAN ANTONIO WAGNER (25-11) The #14 Thunderbirds of coach Christina Camacho had a great year making their 3rd trip to the State tournament in the School’s history. The Black, Red & White won the Region IV Tournament by defeating San Antonio Johnson 66-58, Northside Brandeis 59-54, San Antonio Reagan 56-49, Laredo Alexander 68-31,and Northside Stevens 68-56 to get their team to Austin. In the Semis the Thunderbirds could not get it going as #7 Duncanville won 80-57 to end a great season. In the StateSemi-finals the Royal Blue & White had a hard setback as eventual State Champion Manvel 69-38 won ending an excellent year. The 14-15 edition of coach Perry’s Wolves have a strong core of 9 playoff veterans, including 3 starters looking for another run to the Drum in 2015. 6A Coach Cathy Self-Morgan Coach Tina Camacho 14-15 TEXAS BASKETBALL AAAAAA REGION I DISTRICT 1-6A -District Champions Franklin advanced to the Area Finals. District Runner-up El Dorado lost in the 1st round, while 3rd place El Paso Coronado made it to the second round. Fourth place Bel Air upset Midland Lee to advance to the Area Finals. DISTRICT 2-6A -District Champions Midland Lee was upset in the first round. District Runner-up Lubbock Coronado lost in the first round, while 3rd place Midland advanced to Area Finals. DISTRICT 3-6A -District Champions Bowie went all the way to the Region Semi-Finals. District Runner-up Martin advanced to the Region QuarterFinals. 3rd place Lamar advanced all the way to the Region Semi-Finals. DISTRICT 4-6A -District Champions Southlake Carroll advanced to the Region Quarter-Finals. District Runnerup Keller lost in the first round, REGION I while 3rd place Richland lost in the first round DISTRICT 5-6A -District Champions Marcus advanced to the Region Quarter-Finals. District Runner-up Flower Mound were Area Finalists, while 3rd place Hebron lost in the first round. DISTRICT 6-6A -District Champions Bell had a good run all the way to the Region Finals. District Runner-up MacArthur lost in the 2nd round, while 3rd place Heritage lost in the first round. DISTRICT 7-6A -District Champions Duncanville ran all the way to the State Finals in 2014. District Runner-up Mansfield Timberview lost in the 2nd round. Third place DeSoto made it to the Area Finals. Fourth place South Grand Prairie upset Ellison and advanced to the Region Quarter-Finals. DESOTO (19-11) - The Lady Eagles Area Finalists with a 9-5 district slate will return 4 lettermen, led by 2 starter for this years campaign. Coach Larry GOOD LUCK LADY EAGLES IN 2014-15! 14-15 TEXAS BASKETBALL AAAAAA REGION II, III DISTRICT 12-6A -District Champions Rockwall lost in the 2nd round. District Runner-up Horn lost in the first round , while 3rd place Mesquite advanced to the Area Finals. Najala Howell Chastadie Barrs Goad will build this years team around Texas Basketball Magazine All-State players Najala Howell 5’9” (17.1 ppg, 5.7 rbg, and 2.6 spg), Chastadie Barrs 5’8” (7.0 ppg, 4.1 rbg, 4.6 apg and 6.7 spg), Chania Wright 5’7” and Arin Tubbs 5’3” as they look to add to their tradition. Speed, teamwork and shooting will be their strengths. Look for the Eagles to take it to the next level in 2015. REGION II DISTRICT 9-6A -District Champions Richardson lost a one pointer in the Region Quarter-Finals. District Runnerup Dallas Skyline lost a one pointer for that trip to Austin, while 3rd place Lake Highlands lost in the first round. DISTRICT 10-6A -District Champions Plano West ran all the way to the State Semi-Finals. District Runner-up Plano lost a one pointer in the Region Quarter-Finals, while 3rd place McKinney lost in the first round. DISTRICT 13-6A -District Champions Spring Dekaney lost a one pointer in the Area Finals. District Runnerup Atascocita was beat in the second round, while 3rd place Klein Forest advanced to the Region Quarter-Finals. Fourth place Kingwood upset The Woodlands to advance to the second round. DISTRICT 14-6A -District Champions The Woodlands were upset in the first round. District Runner-up A&M Consolidated lost in the first round, while 3rd place Lufkin lost in the first round. DISTRICT 15-6A -District Champions Bowie lost a one pointer in the Area Finals. District Runner-up Anderson lost in the first round, while 3rd place Westlake lost in the first round. DISTRICT 16-6A -District Champions Cedar Ridge lost in the Region SemiFinals. District Runner-up Stony Point was edged in the Area Finals, while 3rd place Pflugerville ran all the way to the Region Semi-Finalists. REGION III DISTRICT 17-6A -District Champions Cy-Fair were Regional Quarter-Finalists. District Runner-up Cy-Woods advanced all the way to the Region Finals, while 3rd place Cy-Creek bowed out in the Area Finals. Fourth place Cy Ranch upset Eisenhower and advanced to the Region Semifinals. DISTRICT 18-6A -District Champions Eisenhower was upset in the first round. District Runner-up Nimitz was beaten in the 1st round, while 3rd place Alief Elsik lost in the 1st round. DISTRICT 19-6A -District Champions Katy Taylor advanced to the Region Quarter-Finals. District Runner-up Seven Lakes made it to the second round, while 3rd place Memorial lost in the 1st round. DISTRICT 20-6A -District Champions Houston Westside lost in the Area Fi- 14-15 TEXAS BASKETBALL AAAAAA beaten in second round, while 3rd place Chavez lost in the first round. DISTRICT 21-6A -District Champions North Shore were Region QuarterFinalists. District Runner-up Channelview made it to the second round, while 3rd place Port Arthur Memorial was beaten in the first round. DISTRICT 22-6A -District Champions Manvel ran all the way to victory and the State Championship. District Runner-up Pearland ran all the way to the Region Semi- Finals, while 3rd place Dobie lost in the 1st round. Bend Austin was beaten in the first round. DISTRICT 24-6A -District Champions Clear Springs advanced to the Region Quarter-Finals. District Runner-up Clear Brook was beaten in the second round by Ft. Bend Bush 60-48, while 3rd place Clear Springs also lost in the 1st round 66-56 to Ft. Bend Travis. REGION IV DISTRICT 25-6A -District Champions SA Wagner ran all the way to the State Semi-Finals. District Runner-up Converse Judson was beaten in the second round, while 3rd place New Braunfels lost in the first round. District Runner-up SA Churchill lost in the second round, while 3rd place Roosevelt was set back in the first. DISTRICT 27-6A -District Champions San Antonio Stevens ran all the way to the Region Finals. District Runner-up O’Connor lost in the first round, while 3rd place Brandeis were Area Finalists. REGION IV AAAAAA NORTHSIDE BRENNAN (34-2) Winners in District 28-5A. The Bears of coach Koty Cowgill had a great year making their 2nd consecutive trip to State Tournament in the school’s history. The Black & Gold won the Region IV Championship by beating Boerne Champion 48-33, Cedar Park Vista Ridge 57-31, Cedar Park 61-30, Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway 61-30 and Leander 49-33 to earn their ticket to the Drum. In the State Semis the Bears were denied, as McKinney North upset them 37-35 to end a super season. Coach Cowgilll’s 14-15 edition will only return a lineup of 7 lettermen led by 1 starter back as they hit the playoff trail in 2015! Look for Megan Valdez-Crader 5’6” to team up with Autym Scales, Britany Bagsby, Deja Mason 6’4”, Zhazze Brown, Monique Terry, and Kinzie Heineman to take them down the playoff trail in 2015. DISTRICT 29-6A -District Champions Alexander was beaten in the Region Semi-Finals. District Runnerup Laredo United lost in the Region Quarter-Finals, while 3rd place Del Rio advanced to the Area Finals. DISTRICT 28-6A -District Champions Cibolo Steele made it to the Region Quarter-Finals. District Runner-Up Carroll was beat in the first round, while 3rd Southwest lost in the Area Finals. DISTRICT32-6A -District Champions Harlingen lost in the Area Finals. District Runner-up Veterans Memorial was beaten in the second round, while 3rd place Los Fresnos lost a one pointer in the Region Quarter-Finals.
