1. INTRODUCTION
Foundation: CivilSer - Estudos e Projectos de Engenharia, Lda was established in
April 1999, founded by the directors Engs. Francisco Baptista Esteves Virtuoso and Augusto
Martins Gomes.
Mission: To develop high standard structural engineering services, concerning buildings,
bridges and special structures, including new structures, retrofitting and assessment of
existing structures.

Technical supervision of CivilSer - Estudos e Projectos de Engenharia, Lda is guaranteed by
Engs Francisco Baptista Esteves Virtuoso and Augusto Martins Gomes.
Francisco Baptista Esteves Virtuoso
•
Civil Engineer, Associate Professor at the the Civil Engineering Department of IST- Instituto Superior
Técnico .
•
Degree in Civil Engineering (IST, UTL, 1981), Master in Structural Engineering (IST, UTL, 1985),
Phd in Civil Engineering (IST, UTL, 1992).
•
Founder of CivilSer, Estudos e Projectos, Lda, in 1999 being responsible for several projects spanning
from bridges, buildings and special structures.
•
Over 32 years of experience on structural design, with special focus on bridge design and structural
concrete strengthening and repair.
•
At present, is Associate Professor at Civil Engineering Department at IST, being responsible for Bridges
and Special Structures course.
Augusto Martins Gomes
•
Civil Engineer, Associate Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of IST - Instituto Superior
Técnico.
•
Degree in Civil Engineering (IST, UTL, 1983), Master in Structural Engineering (IST, UTL, 1987),
Phd in Civil Engineering (IST, UTL, 1992).
•
Founder of CivilSer, Estudos e Projectos, Lda, in 1999 being responsible for several projects spanning
from bridges, buildings and special structures.
•
Over 30 years of experience on structural design, with special focus on bridge design and structural
concrete strengthening and repair.
•
At present, is Associate Professor at Civil Engineering Department at IST, being responsible for the
group of courses of Construction Materials.
The technical staff of CivilSer - Estudos e Projectos de Engenharia, Lda is completed by Civil
Engineers and CAD Technician.
CivilSer - Estudos e Projectos de Engenharia, Lda has a group of consultants that enables the
execution of other expertise field areas including geotechnical and geological studies,
geotechnical and geological exploration, sampling and soil parameter measuring, highway
engineering, hydraulics, Material testing, topographical services.
