USAGE GUIDE
INTRODUCTION
Dear journalist,
The Ministry of Culture, together with the Brazilian Institute of Museums (IBRAM) and the
Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (ABRASEL), is offering press cards to media
professionals accredited by the Open Media Center (CAM) of Rio de Janeiro or by FIFA. The
press card grants free access to 27 museums in nine cities across Brazil as well as free gifts
and discounted offers at 132 restaurants in the 12 host cities of the FIFA World Cup Brazil
2014.
The pass is valid until July 15, 2014 in an effort to promote Brazilian museums and cuisine
and provide national and international press the chance to discover new flavors, colors and
experiences from the best Brazilian culture has to offer, from North to South.
In particular, some museums are hosting special exhibits on the history of football that you
might want to check out. For example, in São Paulo, the Afro Brazil Museum is hosting the
"The Black in Brazilian Football - the Art and the Artists" exhibition, a tribute to Mario Filho.
Participating restaurants are offering a wide variety of dining options for all budgets,
including special offers and discounts. In select venues, offers include a courtesy caipirinha
as well as discounts on "self-service" restaurants. "Self-service" is a frequent option in
restaurants throughout Brazil. These restaurants usually charge by the kilo or offer a buffet
on a per-customer price and serve several typical Brazilian dishes, like the classic rice-andbeans duo, and food inspired from other countries as well, like many varieties of pasta and
others.
Thanks to one of the biggest sporting events on the planet being held here, the richness of
Brazilian culture is now even more evident and there are many places where you can enjoy
it. We hope this press card will help you make the most of your time here in Brazil.
In addition to the exclusive benefits for accredited media, the Ministry of Culture has also
organized a variety of cultural programs to promote the 12 host cities. These are all free
performances, and will include theater, music, dance, literature, circuses and workshops on
various topics. You can see a full list and pick your favorites at www.cultura.gov.br.
HOW TO USE THE CARD
To receive the benefits of the Press Card, accredited media need only present their digital
press card (via smartphone or tablet) or a printed version, together with their press
credentials from CAM or FIFA at the museum box offices or to the staff at the restaurants
(as soon as initially served).
If you have any questions or issues, please contact us by email:

architectural and artistic importance. Its eclectic design is the work of renowned foreign
artists, such as the architect Gustav Waehneldt and painters Emil Bauch, Gastão Tassini and

Hours of Operation: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
The Museum of the Portuguese Language is housed in the city with the largest number of
Lusitanian language speakers in the world. Opened in 2006, it has become one of the most
visited museums in Brazil and South America. The architectural design by Pedro and Paulo
Mendes da Rocha adopted cutting-edge technology and interactivity as exhibit methods. It
aims to show the Portuguese language as a core element of Brazilian culture, to value this
intangible heritage and to encourage exchanges between its speakers in the world. The
second floor of the building houses the panels that tell the story of the Estação da Luz, as
well as the Map of Ways of Speaking installation. From the elevator that gives access to the
museum one can see the Tree of Words sculpture by Rafic Farah. From the tree's roots
sprout words from languages that contributed to the formation of Portuguese. The third
floor houses the Language Planetarium, an anthology of literature built though image and
audio projections.

The Football Museum, located at the Pacaembu Stadium, was designed by Mauro Munhoz.
Its objective is to preserve, investigate, promote and communicate the history of football.
But its mission is to also understand how customs and traditions are inseparable from the
history of the most popular sport in the country. The main feature of the museus is its
intangibility. Its exhibits are based on testimonies, events and football representations,
intertwining emotion, history and fun in exhibits geared for entertainment. The history of
football is retold in the halls. In Room 11 of the exhibit, World Cups, kiosks, videos and
pictures detail the victories and defeats and the cultural context of each event. In the Visit
to the Grandstands room, visitors can see one of the most beautiful sceneries of São Paulo
city. In the Baroque Angels room, life-sized images of 25 of the greatest players of the socalled 'art of football' hover over visitors' heads.

Founded in 2009, the Pinwheel Museum is an interactive museum geared to younger
audiences and dedicated to science. It is located in the Palace of Industries in the city of São
Paulo. The mission of the Museum is to create a playful, social and cultural space right in
the city center that is rich in objects and interactive/informal learning environments that
can contribute to the development of children and youth, arousing curiosity and interest in
science. The 4,000 square meter museum with 250 facilities is housed in the former
building of the old Palace of Industries built between 1911 and 1924. These facilities are
divided into 4 major sections: one on The Universe - from outer space to Earth; the second
on Life - from the first living being to man; the third is Ingenuity - the creations of man in
science; and the last is Society - showing the problems faced in the organized coexistence of
man.

Courtesy offer: One caipirinha – A typical Brazilian drink, the caipirinha dates back to 1918,
when the mixture of cachaça, lemon, honey and garlic was consumed as a remedy to
alleviate the effects of the Spanish flu. The lemon was used for its high vitamin C content,
while the cachaça was added in due to the alcohol (it helped accelerate the effects of the
mixture). Afterwards the drink underwent several variations before arriving at the final
formula, provided for by nothing less than a Presidential Decree (No. 4,851/2003), which
takes cachaça, lemon, sugar and ice.
