Campfire Songs
Dear Parents,
Learning music and songs is a great way to acquire and improve language skills, expand vocabulary, practice
pronunciation, have fun and make contact with the culture of other people.
Campfire Songs are the ones sung by children, adolescents and young people in camps to socialize, transmit
values and stories, to promote fellowship and unity. Many American films show people around the fire telling stories
and singing traditional songs. Campfire Songs is one of the themes of our work in Language Arts in Transition 2 in the
second quarter.
There are many objectives of this teaching sequence, such as the contact with an American cultural event, the
acquisition of vocabulary, the development of pronunciation, understanding of letters and contexts in which the songs
were created and were sung. They will practice the oral English and the sense of belonging to the group.
The class of T2 loves music, and we know that this will be a much appreciated class project. The class will learn
a song every week, and they will be prepared to present some of their favorites on the International Night on July 1st.
The songs we can choose to learn about are:

• Do your ears hang low
• Down by the riverside
• The great old duke of York
• He's got the whole world in his hand
• Yankee Doodle
• Oh! Susanna
• Clementine
• My Bonnie lies over the ocean
• I've got a pea
• On top of spaghetti
At the end of the teaching sequence the students will also make presentations to colleagues from other classes
and the school community.
If you want to take the opportunity to learn and have fun with your kids just search the internet the lyrics and

If you want to indicate other favorite versions of campfire songs to the class, just send the link to us by the your
son or daughter or by e-mail. Students will be assessed by their involvement and participation, research skills, their
ability to share information, speech production, pronunciation and vocabulary acquisition of some songs.

Campfire Songs
Queridos Pais,
Aprender músicas e cantigas é uma excelente maneira de adquirir e aperfeiçoar o conhecimento de línguas,
ampliar vocabulário, exercitar pronúncia, divertir-se e ter contato com uma manifestação cultural de outros povos e
culturas.
Campfire Songs são músicas cantadas por crianças, adolescentes e jovens em acampamentos para socializar,
transmitir valores e histórias, promover companheirismo e união. Muitos filmes americanos mostram pessoas em volta
da fogueira contando histórias e cantando essas cantigas tradicionais. Campfire Songs é um dos temas de nosso
trabalho em Language Arts no Transition 2 neste segundo bimestre.
Há vários objetivos a serem alcançados nessa sequência didática, tais como o contato com uma manifestação
cultural americana, a aquisição de vocabulário, o desenvolvimento da pronúncia, a compreensão das letras e dos
contextos onde as cantigas foram criadas e são cantadas, o exercício da oralidade em inglês e o desenvolvimento do
sentimento de pertencimento ao grupo. A turma do T2 adora música, e sabemos que este será um projeto muito
apreciado por eles. A turma aprenderá uma cantiga por semana, e se preparará para apresentar algumas de suas
favoritas na International Night, em 1º de junho.

comunidade escolar.

compartilhamento de informações, pela produção oral, pronúncia, aquisição do vocabulário e memorização de
algumas cantigas.
