Dear Readers,
This edition is rather meaningfulas we share from various stages of life;
from the birth of twins Sven and Andre Stegen,
to the blessing of Andrea Joosten,
the engagements of Kelvin and Michelle
as well as Philip and Birte.
Then we move on to the ’freshly married’ couples,
Amy and Toby
and Andrew and Krystal.
We are also privileged to share a Diamond Wedding
announcement. (See if you can recognize who it is in the photo?)
It is like the turning of the wheel whereby life passes from one phase
into the next. I took part in a discussion group where the question was
asked about changing our game plan from success to
significance and what to do in the latter part of our years. As our
children move out and begin their own lives, many of us just bumble
along and live day to day. This course made me think about what our
lives are actually there for. I for
one, am grateful to Reiner for
offering of his time to guide
us and help us share our thoughts
on this topic.
We are also proud of the
successes of 4 of our brassband
members who have been awarded
certificates for 40 & 50 year
service to the brassband.

Ein Junge soll einen Hund bekommen. Zusammen mit
seinem Vater soll er sich beim Züchter den Hund aussuchen.
Vater und Junge betrachten den Wurf Hunde, und der Vater
fragt seinen Sohn, welchen von den Hunden er möchte. Der
Junge schaut lange die durcheinanderpurzelnden Kleinen an und deutet schließlich
auf einen Hund mit besonders heftig wedelnden Schwanz und sagt:
„Diesen da mit dem glücklichen Ende!“
Jeder Mensch hat Sehnsucht nach einem glücklichen Leben und wartet auf ein
glückliches Ende seiner Träume und Erwartungen. Aber wie viele Träume sind
geplatzt und wie viele Hoffnungen an Enttäuschung gestorben. Gegen die
Sehnsucht vom glücklichen Ende steht die Erfahrung vom dicken Ende: „Das dicke
Ende kommt zuletzt!“ Da schleicht sich die Angst in das Leben ein, und die
Befürchtung macht sich breit, das Leben könnte scheitern und am Ende
zerbrechen.
Die Bibel gibt uns einen guten Rat für den Zwiespalt von Glückserwartung und
Schmerzerfahrung:
Dennoch bleibe ich stets an dir; denn du hältst mich
bei meiner rechten Hand, du leitest mich nach deinem Rat
Und nimmst mich am Ende mit Ehren an. Psalm 73:23-24

Wenn die Probleme übergroß werden und man keine Zukunft sieht, halte Fest an

1 Chronicles 16:23
The Ark of God was brought to the tent which David had pitched for it. The
Israelites celebrated this wonderful occasion in their midst. David made burnt
offerings and the Levites were instructed to minister before the Ark of God and
lead the people in praise and worship of God. They
used musical instruments and
singing to honour God and to proclaim his
marvellous deeds.
As Christians we have enough grounds to join in with
the people of Israel to
magnify God’s Name, since he has brought about salvation through his Son,
Jesus Christ. We no longer have to bring sacrifices like burnt offerings, due to
what God has DONE for us in Christ Jesus.
In the preface to the first Bapst Hymnal of 1545 Luther states: “Sing to the Lord
a new song… since God has made our hearts and spirit to rejoice through his
beloved Son, whom he has given for us as the redemption from sin, death and
the devil. Whoever truly believes this, cannot but joyfully and with delight bear
witness to it in word and song so that others will also hear it and feel compelled
to join in.”
Yes, we are called to let God’s wonderful acts resound in all the earth. In nature where he created things fearfully and wonderfully. At work where people
should hear about his salvation for all people. In the Congregation, where we
allow the Holy Spirit to fill us with joy and fellowship. Yes, and one day in
heaven where we will join the heavenly hosts in proclaiming God’s salvation
and honour.
Let us give expression in our daily lives to the hymn: “Now thank we all our
God, with hearts and hands and voice / who wondrous things has done / in
whom his world rejoices.” Praising God is our calling.

Bob Buford’s Half Time
Fröhlicher Dienstag am 11 Juni 2014 im CC in Harburg um
9Uhr 30 .
An einem kalten Wintermorgen wagten sich ca 20 Senioren
aus Harburg, Wartburg, Neu Hannover und Pietermaritzburg
heraus.
I had the privilege to participate in a 5 week course run by Pastor Focke
and about 20 other people as we studied Bob Buford’s book
“Half Time” .
This was an eye opener to all of us as we asked ourselves about our future
plans. Do you know what you are going to do once you have retired?
Or once the children have left the house or should your partner have passed
on? One of the most significant statements made in the book, which is
what we all are striving for was said by
Doug Mazza:
“To wake up every morning and feel as though you're
where God wants you to be that day
is as much peace as
you’re going to find this side of eternity!
The underlying topic was about repurposing our life plan from success
to significant. How do we achieve this? Many interesting discussions
were had and deep thoughts were shared. We got to think about our inner
compass and gifts and how we can use them to leave a legacy behind
and that all that we have done in our former years need not be wasted but
used under different circumstances and at a different venue.
I would highly recommend reading this book to gain insight to the
meaning of our lives.

Ein sehr fröhlicher Morgen fand
statt mit Andacht, Gesang und Gebet. Carmen Lorenz machte einen
Vortrag über
“Den Baum” ein Symbol aus dem
Leben des Menschen und mit Bibelversen.
Eine wunderschöner Kaffee tafel
mit Kuchen endete den fröhlichen
Morgen.
Es wurde viel gelacht.
Wir danken Christa, Annette und Carmen für ihren Einsatz.

Fröhlicher Dienstag Mai 2014
Wir waren bei Johanna im Luthergarten
nahm sie uns mit nach Harburg zum
Dear Congregation Members,
zu Besuch und so
Fröhlichen Dienstag.
Obwohl wir etwas spat kamen wurden
wir ganz lieb von
Christa, Helga, Carmen und Annette in Empfang genommen und
fühlten uns
gleich zu Hause.
Der lange
schen
geschmückt,
besetzt, so
noch ein
Stühle dawurden aufdem großen
Tisch , mit hübHerbstlauf
war schon voll
wurder schnell
Tisch und drei
zugeholt und wir
genommen in
Kreis.
Nur ein
Mann war dabei,
so freute sich
Henrich über
diese
männliche
unterstützung! Es
war eine fröhliche und gesellige Runde – es wurde gesungen, lustige
Geschichten wurden vorgelesen und ein “Memory” Spiel wurde gespielt wobei man die Augen zuhalten musste und mit den Händen fühhlen um etliche Kleine Artickel zu erraten. Wie dankbar ist man
dann doch für das Augenlicht!
Bei herrlichem Kuchen (Red Velvet & Apfeltorte) und Kaffee konnte
man sich mit alten und neuen Bekannten unterhalten. Für mich war
es besonders schön um nach etwa 45 Jahren gute Freunde aus meiner
Zeit als Lehrerin in Wartburg und Harburg wieder zu sehen und die
Vergangenheit wieder ins Leben zu rufen.
Es war fürwahr ein fröhlicher Dienstag und wir möchten Euch allen
ein großes “DANKESCHÖN” sagen.
Group 3 is responsible for the organising of the FEST side of this
year’s Tour de Krantz. We are grateful for the commitment of
Group 3 members who have willingly agreed to lead the relevant
sections of the FEST. We urge all remaining members of Harburg
congregation to please support and contribute in a meaningful way
to make this occasion a success. Only with everyone’s willing and
enthusiastic input can this become a fun day of fellowship and
reaching out to others.

The youth service was very well attended in New
Hanover by all congregations. It was well attended by
Lynton Dedekind (NH), Martin Kassier (Wbg), Louis
Lorenz (Hbg), Kirsten Klee (NH), Tanya Klee (NH),
Michelle Bartels (NH), Carmen Bartels (NH), Heidi
Rencken (NH) and a few elders .
We played croquet and there was some tough competition as it was Boys vs Girls (GREAT FUN ) !! followed
by a hearty braai, good chatting and getting to know
each other once again.
I hope we can do it more often in the future.
